Cheap flights & hotels

Ever increasing oil price isnt sounding good news for flight prices folks, cheers Donald :(

Looking at Skyscanner there are very different prices for different days of the week though. From Leeds-Bradford its around the £50 mark to fly on a Tuesday in August but £150 on a Friday and Saturday.

In terms of nights the island is a bit quieter mid week but a potential £200 return saving just for flying a different day is tempting.

Any one noticed hotels going up yet?
Could be even worse than that, if airlines can't get fuel > cancelled holidays, stranded abroad?

There is a good deal for two Palladium hotels on the island for those who like playing with hotel bonus programs.

Palladium hotels participate in the Wyndham Rewards bonus program. You can book Grand Palladium White Island Resort and Palladium Hotel Cala Llonga for 30,000 bonus points per night.

Wyndham Rewards sells bonus points for money. Until May 1, they have a promotion that gives you twice as many points when buying them. For example, I yesterday purchased 90,000 points and paid $585 for them (amounts to 505€ at the current exchange rate). Then I used these points to book 3 nights at Grand Palladium White Island Resort in August.

This translates into 168€/night. The cash price for these rooms for my travel dates in August is 673€.

Not recommended to those who never used a hotel bonus program before. There is a risk of you losing the money and ending up with useless points if e. g. Palladium hotels suddenly stop offering rooms for bonus points. It takes about 24 hours between buying points and being able to use them to book rooms. Not every date can be booked with points. But it's a great deal for those willing to take the risk.

Clever!

Some airlines now cancelling flights this summer due to fuel prices and fears of jet fuel shortage.

But as far as I can see it's scheduled airlines like Lufthansa, KLM etc not charter and low cost ones like Jet2, TUI and Ryanair.

For those like Jet2 and TUI who sell packages last thing they'd want to do is cancel flights as it then means refunding all the hotels etc too.

But deffo keep an eye on anything you have booked!

As a minus followed by a plus - the Airport Express goes straight to the port via the motorway so no stops anywhere near my hotel, however Aero 5 should be up-and-running which, on Sundays, is ten past the hour from the airport. Otherwise it's the ordinary bus which stops close enough.

On the way back, can get the Express from the park near CETIS.
