still 8 days to see it in Spain :D :D :D :D

I also saw it last night (with Anna not Sync!).

Tres bon! From sketchy memory of the book - had they added the bits about Wonka's childhood? I don't remember that from the original story....

Watching it tonight - very excited!!!! Got it on dodgy DVD but have resisted temptation to watch it so i can see it first at the cinema!

Can't wait :D :D :D

Me and Jon also saw it last night!!!

Brilliant, brilliant film. Jonny Depp is great as Wonka, and the young actor who plays Charlie Bucket is really good too, I bet he's got a long career ahead of him!

I really love all the old films, I was worried this one wouldn't live up to the original, but it definately did!

I'm not sure Jon enjoyed it as much, he fell asleep half way through  :o

anyone notice that you dont get many films with dwarves in these days? (do we still say dwarves or do we say vertically challenged??? :? )

I was reading an article about one of the original Ooompa Looompa's in one of the Sunday rags and how they just CG'd one bloke and made a race of Oooompa Looompa's from cloning his image - and he was disappointed about not being part of the new film.... of course he was - film = cash!!

Anyway it got me thinking, there used to be quite a few films with dwarves in years ago, but I cant remember the last time I saw a film with dwarves in

Does this mean that there are less dwarves in the world or that not many dwarves are in the film industry these days?

what are dwarves?

People under 4' 9" I believe is the benchmark...

Interesting Facts
Politically Correct Terminology
We are first and foremost human beings, it is secondary that we are human beings who are of restricted growth. Use of the word "midget" to describe someone of short stature is considered extremely offensive by some people. It is better to refer to someone of short stature as a "Little Person" or "Dwarf". Also, some people find the term "dwarf" as equally offensive as "midget". If people, both average and short stature, were able to place their humanity before everything else, the world might be a much better place. The more we stick labels on each other, the more we segregate ourselves, and the more we encourage ignorance and prejudice.

Estimated Worldwide Dwarf Population
There are many conditions and diseases that can cause short stature. Some of these conditions involve a primary bone disorder - the bones do not grow and develop normally. These conditions are called skeletal dysplasia. Over 500 specific skeletal dysplasias have been identified. Of these, Achondroplasia is the most common, affecting about 80% of all Little People. An individual with Achondroplasia has disproportionate short stature. It occurs in all races and with equal frequency in males and females, and affects about one in every 40,000 children (this was the most conservative estimate available).

World Population as of (6/6/2002) = 6,250,000,000
(6,250,000,000 / 40,000) / 0.8 = 195,313 Little People (Worldwide)

I can't believe you turned me down, Buckley...!

I'm not sure about the childhood bits either...I wonder if they added them to beef up the backstory a little bit. will have to have a look at the book.
