We got Spartak Moscow away 8O tricky enough tie for sure, they've done ok over the years in the CL and we will have to play really well to overcome them, might try and go to Moscow, bloody visas and all that lark:?

Liverpool got Toulouse and Arsenal got Sparta Prague both potential tricky ties but id say they'll win.

Mr Morbyd, some info please on Spartak Moscow, are they the best team in Moscow/Russia?

Do they get big support, what is their ground like, etc, etc?

Spartak were the dominate force for years, however CSKA are now the big dogs I believe. However, both teams are very good and obviously the have their home leg as a massive disadvantage to any team travelling to Russia. I wouldn't go there, those Russians have mental firms that will destroy your rabble. The Dogs ?! I believe.

SP, for once, is correct. Spartak were dominant for ages but went through a few lean years (when Lokomotiv, and then CSKA ruled) before resurging as of late. When CSKA's performances in Europe, including winning the UEFA Cup, bumped Russia up to two UEFA CL places from one, 2nd-place Spartak was the beneficiary both last year and this.

Spartak are currently top of the league after 18 weeks, though just 7 points above 5th place CSKA so it's a bit tight at the top. Zenit St Pete are 2 points back, FC Moskva 3 pts, and Dinamo Moskva 6 pts back.

Spartak call CSKA "konny" (horses) while CSKA call Spartak fans "myaco" (meat). When these two teams play, there's always 1980s Millwall v Chelsea-style fights.

European matches are more than safe to attend. I'm black. The toughest football fans around here tend to be skinheads. I'd never attend a local match (CSKA is my local team) as I value the current shape of my head without any boot-inspired reshaping.

Nevertheless, I've been to quite a few CSKA European games and felt perfectly safe as the stadium is practically ringed with police. No worries.

Moscow is a very tough place for teams to come and play. I don't fancy Celtic's chances!

Even more massive slating of me...

Anyway, is it actually that bad for a black guy to attend a top flight football game in Russia ? Are you exaggerating or not ? I can believe a bit of verbal but physical abuse ?!

I think it might well be. I sure John has said so before and remember reading something about racism being fairly rife among Russian footy fans. Aren't 'they' extreme homophobes too Morbs?

Yes indeed, Buckster.

And no, SP, not kidding at all. I wouldn't go unless I was in some super VIP section and had a car picking me up at the entrance.

European nights, totally different story. So much security you could bring the Harlem boys choir along. (or even a few Scots... and the odd Irishman. They love the Scots and Irish here! They see you a drinking buddies ;) and they love their whiskey)

Reading on a few Celtic forums that Spartak Moscow have an element of Neo Nazi fans in their ranks, that wont fit well with a large anti-fascist Celtic fans8O

Would like to go over but the cost is way too much and ive got Ibiza coming up so will have to watch it on TV, would imagine that over 5,000 Tims will be in attendance, would usually be a lot more only for hassle of getting a bloody visa and all that shizzle.

As regards our chances, well id be happy with a draw in Moscow, and im confident we'd take them in Glasgow.8)

Dear John,

If I could I would like to make a few points

'that wont fit well with a large anti-fascist Celtic fans'

Is it not common knowledge that Celtic fans threw bananas at Mark Walters when he played for Rangers against those loveable rogues from the east end of Glasgow ??

Is it not common knowledge that if you attend a game at Celtic Park you will hear the enlightened inhabitants glorifying the actions of a certain terrorist organisation that specialised in ethnically cleansing Protestants from large areas of Northern Ireland

Yes that all sounds very anti facsist to me !!!!

Roger

Lets hope we have more pictures like this this coming season.
