You enjoyed James Zabiela? I saw him at Homelands and I thought it was the most horrible sounding 'music' i've ever had the misfortune to endure. We all thought he was a bag of $hit. :?

Each to their own but JZ rates highly in my book. He may have had an off-day mind you. What other DJs are you into?

On the CD / vinyl debate. You could get the best of both worlds with the Numak CDX's:

Or you could opt for Final Scratch which you would be able to use anywhere that has vinyl decks. Just need to bring your laptop and the equipment with you.

OK, I'll throw in my 2 pennies, last night I took my newly purchased Technics 1210's in to my gig http://www.ibiza-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=34316. I have used computers for over 6 years now (laptops for the last 3 1/2). I still had the laptop but primarily used the decks for 3/4 of the night, so, here are my thoughts;

I didn't take the decks in on Friday night as basicly I didn't have my record case sorted. I found this a difficult problem as I just wanted to take all my vinyl, which is not an option. Still not thru my collection yet, but, I had enough sorted to have a go last night. To setup my record case consisted of selecting the cream of tunes from my collection. With the laptop, as everything is available, musically it's easy to get off the beaten track, whereas, with using vinyl last night the music I played was much more focused. I had several remarks at the end of the night about how good the music was, it was a great night.

A number of customers who truly believed I downloaded all my music to laptop were stunned at all the vinyl I was using (think I've moved up a few notches in the respect table). On 3 separate occasions I had customers asking 'whats this tune? been after it for ages, where did you get it from?.....', etc. (Jupiter Ace - 1000 Years, Roman Flugal - Ghetts Noch & Franchino - 999.....old (1999) Trancy/Rave tune) and I was able to show them the record sleeves.

The other thing was I was so busy mixing, rumaging thru my record case, etc. the time absolutely flew over, I could easily have kept on going for another 4 1/2 hours and was thoroughly enjoying myself. Theres CD players there belonging to the venue and and I carry loads of CDR's in a Case Logic flatpack but rarely ever use them.

I had intended buying these decks for my own personal gratification to tinker with at home, but, after last night's performance, I'm now thinking of dragging them to my gig on the busier Saturday nights. I've already asked the boss to get a pair of decks and a decent mixer to save me carting mine in. I've been taking my own mixer in for over 3 years 'cause theirs is sh*te, if I start taking my decks as well then I'm almost a mobile disco! But, I've deejayed for over 28 years and love music and like it to be the best quality I can produce, can't stand working in places with crap gear.

The pioneers don't have the vinyl touch though...wasn't that the point of mentioning the CDX's ;)

Exactly.

The Pioneer CDJ1000s are undoubtedly the best CD decks around as they allow you to do many things that simply aren't possible with vinyl. However, if you want the vinyl touch then the Numark CDXs are the decks for you.

Chewie - I thought of you on saturday when I was Djing at turnmills as I had to use the same mixer the S-man brought in for his set the week before. Wasn't anything particularly flash though - just some pioneer jobby. :?
