cdjs or turntables

for a beginner whats best to start out with,it seems to me more and more djs are using cdjs now so would turntables be a waste of time taking into account you can just burn tunes onto disk now .

If you are just starting, don't bother with vinyl.
It's much cheaper to build a collection with CD and most clubs now have cdj's as standard, and there are very few dj's left playing vinyl.

However if you wanna buy some 1210s, I know where there's a pair going like a small bird......

Theres a lot of bars that havent got CDJ's, and thats where your gonna start playing first, so gotta be able to play both IMO.

Have to admit been vinyl diehard shunning the technical revoloution but since I have been in Dubai where it is difficult to keep bang up to date (not impossible though) largely due to one record shop and extortionate shipping costs I have been using traxsource and djdownload and I'm really startin to love ma cdjs.

No cueing probs i.e needles jumping out the groove, no feedbak from the bass in poorly constructed dj boxes and I know EXACTLY how long I've got to go and take a piss. This is all b4 I've fully learnt exactly how creative you an be with these things and a 500fx.

I will still always buy vinyl because that is what my collection is but I can see me burning it all for the use in clubs. Jesus I'll be using a lap top next!

That was good!

Seriously mate, there is no better feeling in the world when you first whack your fingertips on the CDJ1000 and run it back and forth.

Depends on type of mixing.... music style...

Vinyl still best for scratching (though didital is really catching up quick - Though you will pay top end prices on CD players for best scratching effects)

If it's just mixing blends and cuts - CD is as good if not better. Cheaper to build collection and some great effects on CD players.....
This works out cheaper than buying Vinyl decks / mixer and effects unit.

It's all down to choice.

I played Vinyl years ago and swapped to CD this year - I will not go back to Vinyl - though I do mess about with a mixture of both.

CD's are also great for creating your own re-mix on the fly - You need two copies of the same record to do this on Vinyl - Again cost prohibitive.

If money is no object - Vinyl still has the best feel.....

That's my thoughts......

I play a bit of both at the minute but ive got to admit that cd seem to be a taking over.

Still got my decks tho to copy vinyl to cd

If you have the ability to burn any vinyl to CD then just get CD decks. It's good to be able to use both so try and practice on some vinyl decks if you opt for CDJ's.

Personally I'd go for vinyl as to be honest if you can mix on vinyl, CD's are pretty damn easy to pick up.

If you mix on cd's and want to mix vinyl you're stuffed (personally speaking)

Agree with Matt, i think mastering the CD thing is easier. It looks easier anyway

Id get both but buy the decks first and then just the one CDJ a little bit down the line.

get what you can with your budget.

like bubble says, easy enough to copy vinyl onto CD.

If yr going to just mix records and not do any scratching get CDJs.

Only had a brief go on the CDJ1000's and theres so much you can do with it with time and practice.

Musics music, whether Vinyl or CD, and at the end of the day most people couldnt give a rats arse if u play on either or both, so long as u can entertain.
