when your car is a right off, and you sort of want to know roughly what you'll get back on the insurance, someone told me there is a list on the net, and a book anyone know the link or what the book may be called please??

does that make sense? :?

Mine was writtn off last year  Was fully comp, so expected to get all the money back on it (roughly £5000-£250 excess), but was only offered £2000....was not happy at all

have a look in WH SMIths in one of them car guides, and it'll tell you what the highest-low price yr cars worth. it prob wont be anything near what yr insurers will pay out tho, but will give u an indication.

The insurance companies rarely offer book price, but the book you want is Glasses guide.

If you let me know the car and year I'll give you an idea. (I'm a dealer (of cars))

thanks for the info people

liam I'm not sure of the year of it, but it was a Mercedes SL 320, think at a guess maybe 99 :?

Oh dear Leese! What you done? ;) :P

Are you ok tho? Cars can be replaced but not Leese's :D

8O Must have taken a lot to write off one of those, hope you're ok Leese (or your fella if he was driving!) they're built like tanks...the 90's SL series was the last Merc to be built decently/completely over engineered.

Never mind... it's 1997. Last year of that model.

Do you know how much mileage you had?

If you use 90000 miles, you get an average retail value of $22,900, or a little over 12.5k pounds.

If you pm me all the details ie. year and plate (t or v reg), exact model and mileage, I'll let you know top and bottom book. But like i say they rarely offer book. So what you will have to do is find an equivalent car for sale and show them that you can't replace it with the PALTRY offer they are offering.

let me know and good luck.

Ps are you alright ?? (obviously the car isn't)

There is according to Glasses.

Tried the site but wouldn't bring a price up. You have to pay for result too.

I take it back. I googled it and the model did exist. Just not in the NADA database :?

Morbyd...the UK market had different variants...the SL320 went on two/three more years after it ended in the US i think ;)

Leese, UK costs/values for your car assuming it was a 99 on an S are

about £16,000 from a garage
about £15,000 private sale for average miles/good condition
about £12,000 for a shitter
about £14,000 p/x value.

You need to find adverts for loads of identical cars to yours and send them to the indurance co to prove how much it was worth. don't accept their first, or second offers, hold out for a good price.
