Car hire

Looking to hire a car when I'm over in August.
Do you have any recommendations for companies?
Hiya Please read this is important or you may not be able to hire a car , They are scrapping the counterpart to the photocard driving licence.
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/driving-licence-changes

From 8 June 2015, you may wish to check with the hire company what they need to see when you hire a vehicle. If you are asked for evidence of what vehicles you can drive or confirmation of any penalty points, you will be able to request a unique code from GOV.UK which will allow you to share your driving licence details or you can download a summary of your driving licence record. The code will last for up to 72 hours and will allow the hire companies to make any necessary checks. You can also request a code by calling 0300 083 0013. This also applies if you have a paper licence that was issued before 1998.

Not all vehicle hire companies will ask for this information and we advise that you check with your hire company.

only found out about this after reading the Ibizasun paper this weeks edition

remember the code only lasts 72 hours so if you decide to hire one part way through the week or decide to you fancy hiring one a few days in your hols you have to find an internet cafe and log on to the site and dont forget your national insurance number as you need this to log on the site as well , what a load of hassle they are causing

I made the "mistake" of hiring a car the first time, now I couldn't do without one. Like others have said, it's so handy, especially during the day for exploring all the island's beaches.

+1 for Moto Luis too. Used them the fist year I went. Second year found Europcar to be much cheaper, then they stung me with their famous fuel scam. Moto Luis may charge a little more, but you know you can trust them and I'll always use them from now on.

Just don't park on the taxi rank outside Pacha ( the one that looks like parking spaces because they didn't properly re-paint it), even if loads of other people have done the same thing. That was a 100E fine, and we were a minute away from having the car impounded.

And don't speed on the motorway. That was another 100E fine....

We have used Atesa for the last few years. They have a key collection in the luggage pick up area of the airport so I normally go and get the keys before collecting my bag which saves lots of time. The car pick up is in the multi story just outside and you can be away in minutes.

I would careful with some of the others where they take you in a mini bus and I once waited over 2 hours to get my keys due to the queue of people and slow service.

Bare in mind that if you look on google maps you can actually walk to some of the 'off airport' car hire places as opposed to waiting for bus but depends which one you get and if you know where you're going!

Not as close as you think to walk some of them though.
