Car hire excess

Arrive on the 17th June for 19 days and have been trying to book a car for the whole trip but both companies I have used so far want e850 euro deposit on arrival from my credit card ???
Do all companies have this policy now ?
Can anyone recommend a company were I don't have to pay so much access on arrival ( would rather spend that money on the island )

Thanks for help

Everyone if ever hired always ask for a fairly large deposit that they hold on your credit card most that I have used are at least 500 I think

last year they did not take anything from me, i hired a car for 9 days, they only wanted the number of a credit card

I don't think you can get a car without a deposit against a credit card. Its just not worth the risk for the hire company. The deposit is to pay for damage etc the excess is just a fee on top (which you can waiver).

In my experience they dont always take the deposit out , its just so they have your credit card details if they need to.

that doesn´t mean anything.
mostly they block a certain amount - and don´t even ask you.
you only find out f.e. if they tell you they can´t give you a car because there isn´t enough money on your account to block that amount ...

Thanks folks for taking the time to answer
Just freaks me out as I'm sure they have pulled a few moves over the years and people have lost money for nothing.

I have found out that it depends on the hire car rental price example ( Hertz price for 2 weeks £350 and 600 Euro loading for any damage ) Buget price £250 for 2 weeks with 1200 Euro loading for damage ) but if you have insurance for car hire covering excess and the other things which the normal insurance does not cover , most excess ins will cover up to £3000 or even more so which ever way you look at it you cant be out of pocket , unless you dont have the excess ins which then you could be in sh1t street get it before you go DONT GET THE HIRE CAR COMPANY ONE or this will cost a arm and a leg
try these for price

if u worried bout expense i found doyouspain.com pretty good as u can select the different fuel policies in your search which can save u $$ ie if u aint gona drive loads then a full/full policy is better even tho hire is more expensive as you dont have to buy a tank of fuel off the hire company

I had to pay £499.56 deposit last week, that was refunded, then the bank charged me £16.91 for the transaction...

Next time I'll put it on my Post pffice Credit card.

Where you able to dispute / claim that charge back at all? I have a rental car booked too and only just found out that a 800 euro plus vat deposit will be required on collecting the car................talk about steep. Was also told wouldn't be able to use debit card as deposit , and I don't have 800 odd available on my credit card :(.

I lost my paper bit of licence 1 week befor the chance over so I thought I had to get a new one (£20) as the new system was due to start the week after.

Got there and they didn't want the paper bit at all.

I spoke to the UK agent too and he said most firms don't bother with it as long as you have the card.

£20 down the drain :-(

But better safe than sorry :-)

Get a Post Office credit card (do it on line as it only takes a moment) then 2 or 3 days later you get your card.

they dont charge any extra for paying in euros!!!
&
I did put mine on my Lloyds Visa Debit card (not credit) :-(
