Me and Macdonsj are thinking about an all-inclusive holiday in Cancun for our honeymoon in August 2006 - if anyone's been, what did you think of it?

My sis and her b/friend went last summer, they like 'nice' holidays as opposed to 'caning' holidays and they loved it, said it was their best holiday they'd ever been on. They did all-inclusive in a 4* and said the standards were way higher than a 4* in most European countries. Also when they left the hotel they said there was lots of things to do in the town.

My sis got married there and loved it, loads to do, lovely area, just watch out for the hurricanes!

A mate of mine also went there with his mate, met a lovely American girl, now he's moving to the States to marry her and live the life of Riley thanks to her oil barron father.

I've not heard anyone say anything bad about the place.

We would want a 'nice' chilled holiday anyway since it's our honeymoon as it's all about the lurve  and not too bothered about caning. Wouldn't normally do an all-inclusive but just wanna do something a bit different that's not too expensive.

I have one tip - dont book the Blue Bay Getaway all inclusive through Airtours - my friend went to that one for two weeks (advertised as an adults only - no kids holiday) When they got there they said it was stunning, went to bed and got up the next day. To their shock they worked out after about 2-3 hours that they were in a Swingers hotel....... 8O

I asked her how she found out, and she replied that they were sunbathing around the pool (which incidentally was full of naked bods) and the compare at the beach bar said they were going to have a couples competitionand the best kissing couple would win..... I asked her who won and she replied the couple in a "69 position on the bar"..

They spent the full two weeks hiding in the room I think...... poor buggers were mortified by the activities at the resort....

Why not Santo Domingo? I've heard it's absolutly great and less bussy than Cancun ;)

Is it as resort also? We just chose Cancun because it was the only resort in Mexico we have heard about!

I have also been told by a few people that Puerto Vallarta (West) is fantastic and romantic and so much history.....

It's Dominican Republic but in Spanish :D
The main resort is Punta Cana

Look at this: http://www.puntacana.com/

 Thought you were talking about Mexico! The Dominican Republic seems to be a popular place for honeymoons too. Will look into it. Good to get suggestions. :)

Don't get red, if we count how many times I misunderstood things I'm the winner

And about suggestions, I think most countries in the Caribe (don't know it in English) should have big resorts. Puerto Rico it's supposed to be great aswell but less touristic.

Cancun = Hell Hole....

Its got no character at all & its full of crazed American kids going mad in all you can drink bars...

Mexico itself is beautiful particularly Yacatun Penisula where Cancun is located...lots of Mayan ruins and stunning beaches...

Please don't go to Cancun....but do go to Mexico...

Yup - I've been on exactly that - an all inclusive holiday to Cancun. Was great - beautiful weather, hotel had a beautiful private beach and lots of watersports (leave it  ). Was a little disappointed not to see any real Mexican stuff, though - Cancun was very Americanized. Perhaps, however, we didn't find the real Mexico because the then 'current' hereby refered to as the the 'former' was one for sunning herself and not exploring other cultures.

Swam with dolphins there, which was great. We got the news that the former's Dad had 'bought the farm' on the last day, which wasn't. The flight home was fun, I can tell you!

Dominican Republic was similarly beautiful but I got fed up of getting really pestered by pushy street hawkers every time you stepped outside the all inclusive resort.

Agreed ML - was being polite about our American cousins, but outside the hotel's private area it was like they were making a Frat House style movie!
