Cancel Plague Rave DJs

So then the parties in Miami are ok since everyone has the chance to get vaccinated there? According to this thread they aren’t ok.

Only 20% of people are fully vaccinated. So no, they're not OK. Being allowed to book a vaccination is not the same as completing your course and waiting the 14 days after your second dose for your protection to complete. Plus tonnes of tourists coming in and mixing with each other won't be, and will be going back home fuelling the uptick in cases yet again across the country.

Despite vaccinations, Spring Breakers have caused case rates to go back on the rise.

Something like 75% of 65+ have received the first dose (which basically has the efficacy of AZ). 40-50% of adults have received the first dose. Hospitals are empty. The local government and the large majority of the population are very comfortable with the level of restrictions. The concern in this thread is very heartwarming, but literally nobody in Florida cares. Texas just had 40k people packed into a stadium for baseball opening day.

I get that some people think we should be locked down until every single man, woman, and child are vaccinated, and deaths are near zero. But trying to cancel DJs because they don’t agree with you is incredibly lame.

Anyway, this is going in circles at this point.

I actually think you're buying a whitewash over there but whatever, you guys clearly have your own attitudes and we have ours in Europe.... apart from a few young people feeling hard done to, most others here are happy their lives and those of their parents are not being put at risk so a bunch of other folk can carry on partying like there's nothing wrong.

I've avoided USA for years and have known since the '90s there's next to zero compatibility between my attitudes and values and those in America. Nobody thinks anybody should be locked down until every last man, woman and child is vaccinated but In UK we are gradually and sensibly opening the country back up again having learned our lesson of the consequences of failing to lock down early enough last year. Emulating USA last year rather than watching the lessons of Italy cost many thousands of British lives.

I see no reason why people can't just WAIT to give vaccination coverage a proper chance. But no, they want it and they want it now. God forbid they should have to do without anything.

It's all very well for USA with near-immediate vaccine stock for its whole population to play high and mighty over freedom to travel, the point is the hoarding for itself that's been going on there is not going to help the countries Americans go to on holiday - whose populations have had next to no vaccines. Plus many Americans travelling have no interest in getting vaccinated. We can see exactly what Ireland, so beloved of Mr Biden, thinks of where USA stands in terms of its current Covid position ... they just got banged on the red list so all arrivals have to quarantine in hotels. Better stick to third world countries who can be bought off for a nickel and a dime of tourist money ... and a bunch of deaths of people too poor for anyone to care about.

The recent video of waaf and Ahmed djing on that plane is so desperate.
That is not what clubbing is about.

this has essentially turned into 3 threads in one

these themes all overlap but I'll try and disentangle a few things from my perspective

1. the health angle. a no-brainer for me. it's over when the health authorities say it is over. End. Period. It's not for any of us on here to adjudicate on this just because we're restless to get high to anodyne tech house on a nice beach. The arrogance of people coming on this forum, thinking they know best is astonishing, esp when BILLIONS of people are still exposed to infection.... Until the professionals/specialists say otherwise, suck it up and STFU.

2. the economic angle. I have massive sympathy for people not earning or who depend on live performance. I've personally been actively supporting the local music scene in Spain, week in week out for the last year, helping with crowdfunders, buying merchandise, music, campaigning for more government support, building public awareness, attending restricted gigs where I can. I know a lot of people desperate to get back out there, myself included. The idea that people like me are happy for music to go down just because we're conscientious is beyond laughable. For me the best way to help DJs/producers/bands (the 99% who aren't millionaires) is to buy their music, support them however you can but don't fk things up and delay the return to "normal".

3. the cultural angle. dance music isn't a bubble. we're all interconnected. we all need to be aware that we can't just strut the world stage like colonial masters. it goes beyond covid. there's environmental issues, organised crime, fair trade, there's the impact on local people (often duped by unscrupulous organisers - see Fyre...), and there's also the wider impact this has on how dance music is perceived. Are we a family or are we capitalist bastards just out to make a quick buck? Is music a sacred artform (imo the most precious artform of all) or just a cynical tool to woo dumb, high tourists to joyless, money churning events? I'm not actually massively hippy or sanctimonious, and never 'virtue signal' nor am I necessarily anti-profit. I firmly believe all staff should be paid a fair wage but lets reset and reconsider what this is all about, otherwise what is the actual point?

Now some on here will agree and others will jump on me. But not one thing I wrote is untrue. Things have to change.

Not quite sure what is going on there but looks like there was a group of them out in Thailand and then they've got a private 'jumbo jet' to Columbia that seemed to turn into a 'party' on board.

Just another 'micro'angle for me. Personally if people in places like Miami want to crack on, and host spring break then so be it. That is borderline for me. What I definitely don't agree with is these DJs playing in places in Africa who currently have NO vaccination program / effort or other 'poor' countries.

And - all well and good about superstar DJs who can afford private jets to fly around and play good, but do the really rich need to get richer? I feel more sorry for the promoters, warm up DJs etc who are still struggling. Couple that with the likes of Steve Lawler actually getting 'Arts Council' funding for his Private Limited company (which incidentally one of which has had a number of Gazette notices to be struck off in recent years) - yet still sneaking around the world to get into the US and playing illegal parties there.

If you are comparing plague rave djs to colonists you need to get a grip and have a look at you life. Jesus OTT or what.

This has been going on for a year now and while i do agree that parties in the lesser developed countries is iffy at best but any legal parties that are taking place in developed countries ala america is fine. Some people just love living in fear and judging other people.

It was on richy ahmeds Instagram story. A friend sent it to me. Its down now.
It was a private jet with dj box and disco lights and a few rich white birds
So if you had the chance on a once in a lifetime experience of having a party on a private jet with some dj's you would say: Nah that's not what clubbing is about? 🤣

Just another year, month, week...oh hey variants..just wait a little longer again. Oh not everyone is vaccinated yet, ah well it's just another summer. You do know what people should do before they die right? LIVE.
