Can you rewire a plug???

I'm just reading in the metro that one half of 18-25 year olds admit that they can't and would rather throw an electrical appliance away and buy a new one than try to fix a plug.

I'm afraid I'm one of these people. Feel quite silly now.

I learnt how to re-wire a plug from an early age. I kept playing my computer too much, so my dad took the plug off. From watching him growing up changing a plug I was able to put a new one on instantly.

You get taught it in 1st year science.

Now which colour is the Earth wire?

they taught us this at school in GCSE physics...

erm, live is brown, blue is neutral and green is earth??

piece o'piss!!!

have been able to do it since I was about 12

and in fact this weekend I changed all the wall sockets & light switches in the lounge for nice new stainless steel ones ;)

I'm in the same gang as you then  For the sake of buying a new hairdryer/iron/whatever I'd just go out and buy a new one rather than risk electricuting myself 8O

A preacher of consumer culture's dream!!

Haven't done much with electricity. I have wired a house with phone outlets before though 8)

I can also do light plumbing and assemble some types of computer equipment.

As for plugs - easier to cut the cable off something else (or buy a plug with cable) and then splice the wires together. :?
