Ibiza (1990 pop. 33,776, 572 sq km) is the third largest of Spain's Balearic Islands, in the western Mediterranean. The town of Ibiza is the capital. There are fisheries and saltworks on the island. Subsistence farming, aided by irrigation, is mostly terraced. A picturesque island with Roman, Phoenician, and Carthaginian remains, Ibiza attracts tourists and artists.
