Does anyone know what this place is like. Bit worried by the website blurb of only being 800m from the centre of San An (Westend?????). Can anyone recommend any decent bars / cafes nearby (if there are any!).

You are close to the best place for food in San An. Check out the Kasbah for lunch/beer/dinner. Superb! Also you are just across the rocks from the sunset strip.

You have an excellent base. Enjoy!
 
Thanks fellahs. Beginning to fell more at ease. A girl in work recommended coastline and said it's pretty cool around that area.
