Mambo's New Resident DJs

After nearly ten years loyal service behind the hallowed Mambo turntables, Pete Gooding has finally called time on his illustrious sunset career.

Taking reign of the famous Mambo cans this summer are two rising stars destined for big things - Alex Wolfenden and Matthew Charles.

Wolfenden has been a DJ and producer for the best part of ten years, engineering for people like Yousef and Nic Fanciulli.

He’s recently had an EP out on Carioca, which has been championed by everybody from Jon Carter to Tim Deluxe.

Hailing from Glasgow, Matthew Charles has spent the past couple of years DJing in Dubai with a residency at a club called Trilogy.

His pedigree was recognised when he won the Heineken Thirst competition in 2004.

For Alex, it’s a dream come true.

“Getting this job here, with all its history, it’s a dream job,” said Alex.

“I’ve been coming here for nearly ten years now.

“I know the calibre of DJs that have come through the ranks.

“It’s perfect for me here - I play everything from classical music through to techno.

“It gives me a chance to show what I can do.”

It’s a similar story for Matthew too.

“I’ve been discussing this with friends and we’ve come to the conclusion it is one of, if not the biggest residency in Europe,” he said.

“People like Sanchez, Morillo and Pete Tong are in here on a weekly basis.

“On a professional level I don’t think you can get better exposure anywhere in the world.”

ALEX & MATTHEW’S TOP 5 SUNSET RECORDS

2. Primal Scream ‘Higher Than The Sun’
