Buenos Aires, Punta Del Este or Rio??

hey guys, im currently living in BA.....ive been here for 8 weeks and only have another 2 weeks left.
i also spent time in rio 2 years ago and have been in uruguay during this trip to BA.
Rio: spent about 10 days there back in 2005. Ipanema definitely the place to stay as I felt it was much safer and nicer than Copacabana. The Caesar Park Hotel in Ipanema was fantastic. Clubwise I dont think I can really help you as we were a little disappointed but we didnt really do it right. We also went south to Ihla Grande which was fantastic.

Uruguay: we went to Montevideo as apparently there is no point in going to Punta del Este unless you go between December - March. We have friend who just went to Punta and were disappointed. From what I can tell and what I hear Punta is not much like Ibiza but more geared towards a nice resort for the rich of Buenos Aires something like Saint Tropez. I could be wrong though and as I said I havent been. I did go to Montevideo and it was the most disappointing place I have ever been to. There was nobody there, nothing to do and the centre of the city and old town are completely run down. The same friends who were in Punta last week said exactly the same.

Buenos Aires: fantastic city....absolutely love it here. Stay in Palermo or Recoleta. We have an apartment in Recoleta and its perfect. All the tips that have gone before in previous messages are spot on. Dont go out to eat before 10 or 11pm (unless its Sunday or Monday night - go slightly earlier). Clubs dont get going until 2am. Im going to Pacha tonight so will try and report back. We have spent most of our time in a club called Palacio Alsina, which is mostly gay but straight on Saturday.

Hey SM. Thanks for the update.

We finished booking the details this week and we're on the beach in Mar del Plata on Dec 27-31 and in BA (in Palermo) for Dec 31 - Jan 4. Really looking forward to it!

You must let us know what you think of Pacha BA... I've heard from others who've been that it's a great club. Thinking that might be our NYE destination!

Pacha was fantastic on Saturday....we were coming off the back of two nights in a row so we were really tired and nearly didnt go but forced ourselves as we only have one more weekend left. And we were so glad we did. We got there early (1am) as we didnt have tickets and there was a huge queue. But it moved qucikly. If you dont have tickets get there by that time, probably earlier for NYE, and I would even suggest buying tickets for NYE. You can probably book them on www.ticketek.com.ar and then pick them up when you get here.
It was really busy all night but a really good vibe and people really friendly. They have agreat outside area which is perfect if the weather is warm. Christopher Lawrence was the headlining DJ and he played a fantastic set. We left around 6.30am after saying we were only going to stay until around 4am!!
Not sure if you have any Spanish but you can just about struggle to get by here without it but its amazing how much better a City it is with a little bit of knowledge of the language. It just opens so many more doors for you.

One of the great things about BA is it is so cheap to eat out. Theres lots of restaurants I can recommend but so many of them are so good that Im sure many people can recommend many more. If you like "carne" your coming to the right place!!
One we have been told we must go to is Osaka (Peruvian/Japanese) and we are going on Weds. It can be hard to get a booking so may be worth calling ahead to see if you can get a table.
Most restaurants we have been to have been the semi-expensive (but still really cheap by our standards) restaurants frequented by well-off locals and tourists. You can find some good really cheap local restaurants but they can be hit and miss.
Some we have been to which have been really good
Palermo: Cluny (nouveau Argentinian), Olsen (Scandanavian), La Cabrera (Parilla - meat), Little Rose (Sushi)
Puerto Madero : Cabana Las Lilas (Parilla - meat)

There are more but got spanish class now so have to go!!!

Muchas muchas gracias, amigo :)
Yo hablo un poquito de espanol, pero yo lei hoy que en Argentina la lengua es muy differente. Es la verdad? (por ejemplo, no hablan "tu", a "vos" :?)

We are definitely into our meat and really looking forward to trying that famous Argentine beef. Restaurant ideas much appreciated.

Glad you enjoyed Pacha! I've been looking at the club listings for this month and seems like the people down there like their trance - same thing we saw in Mexico last year.

It's almost eerie. Christopher Lawrence was playing in Cancun the night we arrived last December and we went to see Paul van Dyk on Jan 2. This year, Lawrence plays 2 weeks before we arrive in Buenos Aires and van Dyk on Dec 31 8O

Bummer! Why is everyone leaving just before we arrive!? What, do you want to spend the holidays at home with your families or something?
