What does S & G mean on a contours plan?

e.g.

S 5.00
G 0.69

Only place I've ever seen it used is for S - 'Step' i.e. rise and 'Going' i.e. distance/length of flat. Not for years however.

Some architects/designers/technicians have their own unique (i.e. f***ing incomprehensible) key though. If it's a proper drawing with the details in the box at bottom right corner call the designer up and ask. As long as it's not a client'S in-house team (which you'll presumably be able to tell) your client won't know you had to ask. And it's definitely not standard usage anyway.

Next up the 'cut and shuffle' method of taking off quantities/bill production!

I thought it may be step & gradient.

It's not a big issue. It's large expanse of ground i am scaling for a tender. Unfortunately our Planimeter doesn't allow for gradients so i need to works out the percentage addition.

Cheers anyhow.

1) Bakers??

2) re: "once a week", obviously my sarcasm is lost in the delivery of my text speech.

3) Note to self: must improve sarcastic tone of written speech on spotlight boards

"re bakers" - if everyone in your office gets a Quantity Surveying Magazine, but doesnt read it, then maybe they're not quantitiy surveyors, maybe they do something else..........?? ok bakers not the best example.

Note To Self......try to be more inventive when attempting to rebuff (apparently) veiled sarcasm!!!
