Apologies I got it wrong. Bar del Pi has not shut down (just found out it is actually closed for renovation). Serves me right for not double-checking.
foodwise, a few off top of head.
I really like Petitbo at the moment. There is one on Passeig Sant Joan and another on Mallorca. Recommend their pulled pork and orange tacos. Check though - regularly update their menus.
the 'old cow' bistecs at the Miramar hotel aren't cheap but arguably the nicest I've eaten in BCN (15 minute climb up to Montjuic)
if veggie, then the Cat Bar is really good (just off via laietana)
if you want home made burgers in black buns then la caleta in Raval are very good (and friendly)
occasional tourist trap but always good fun - Xampanyet (carrer montcada, Born) - Mosquito is also pretty decent round the corner
am no expert though. I recommend searching food journo Sally Davies. specialist in BCN cuisine. (+ she knows all the best romantic spots)
