Bora Bora - Will it get its act together 2012?

^ Dj Gee and Bora Bora... Oh the memories! That man provided some quality parties at this place, no question. Wasn't 2005 the last year he played at Bora Bora? Too bad though, all these not-so-good news about the place. I wonder why they don't sort the music policy out as the place in it's self is legendary. So much potential wasted in a way. Music is the key. Get it right and people will appreciate it and through that the whole place again. Not that it's totally wrong as it is, but still, I would very much like to see the place in the seme level it once was. What ever the case, I'll be giving it a visit or two this summer.

You can't expect to stay busy when you don't do anything with the place, don't market on the web and don't bring in talent. The only reason the place is still open is because of the ideal location.

I agree with this x 100.

Why should anyone care about Bora Bora? They seem to put no effort into promoting the product and they serve the same stuff each year with no thought process.

Bora Bora´s online marketing has been somewhat limited due to outside interference. There is an ongoing legal issues behind the scenes which we expect to have cleared up in the near future.

This season in particular we have been upping our game and taking Bora Bora Ibiza back to where it should be.

With regular guest this season like Sonique (twice a month), DJ Chus and Stereo procutions (once a month), John Acquaviva, Olivier Giacamotto and Definitive recordings (once a month) and MYNC. There has also been big name guest such as Felix Da Housecat, and The Japanese Popstars and many one off guests.

With the installation of the new sound system (Void, the same as in DC10) and new DJ box that was put in last year and an increase in publicity its safe to say that Bora Bora Ibiza is Back!!

There is no where else that puts on great free beach parties day in, day out and all for free.

Come down and check it out, give me your opinion again after you've spent an evening dancing on the tables.

Here´s what spotlight had to say about it....

Well Well Bora Bora have a new website http://www.boraboraibiza.net, so it looks like they are taking things up a notch or two..

DJ Chus has become a global artist playing at some of the world's most renowned clubs with regular residencies at Pacha NYC, Space Miami, Stereo Montreal or Ageha Tokyo to name but a few.

DJ Chus 14th July - 16th Aug & 13th Sept

He has a recording legacy of over 20 years in the form of original productions or remixes either solo, with David Penn, Pablo Ceballos or many other partners in crime. From this list stand out such themes as DJ Chus ‘That Feeling', ‘Harmonica Track' or ‘Back2NY' as DJ Chus & David Penn ‘Baila', ‘Will I' or ‘Burning Paris', as Chus & Ceballos ‘Iberican Sound' ‘In Stereo' or ‘Baguio Track' and remixes like ‘Hell in Paradise' for Yoko Ono, ‘Dark Beat' for Oscar G & Ralph Falcon, ‘Hang Up' for Madonna or the latest ‘Not Myself Tonight' for Christina Aguilera.

Cristian Varela is on today/tonight: :D 26th June. Can anyone from Bora Bora tell me what time Dj's like Chus & Christian Varela will play there sets!

Headline DJs will be on from 5.30.
Our policy it to have DJs everyday from 2pm, we crank it up at 4.30pm and headliners generally start from 5.30pm and continue into the night.

Sonique tomorrow and Chus & Ceballos thursday. See you there.

Feedback-

Was there on Sunday from about 5.30pm to 7.30pm. It was a really good atmosphere, goin' off quite nicely and fairly full. No idea who was playing but the music was right.

Tuesday was a different story. Got there about 6pm, again not sure what DJ was playing. The music he was playing was dull, you arent going to get punters coming in off the beach to listen to that. Maybe things got better but I moved next door to Tiare (?) where it was rockin' (albeit the DJ was effects obsessed).

I think Bora Bora needs to be consistent, the music needs to be right from 4.30 till curtains drawn at the very least. If this doesnt happen it is reflected in the rest of the evening.

Lets have more of the residents, Heath and Alex who always get punters dancing on the tables.

Deepseadiver, I´m happy you enjoyed it on sunday.

Tuesdays are now hosted by "From the Inside Out" with Toby Holguin, Moffous plus guests.
As with other clubs, it is to be expected that promoters will bring with them their own style and sound.

Chus & Ceballos today, maybe this will be more your style?!

Being of a management background, I can only imagine it's hard as hell to make everything work at a place like Bora Bora.

The revenue model is completely different from the clubs and also different from the beach bars so while they might want to get the best talent, have the best food, and cheap drinks, economics are against them...

It's location is really it's only natural draw and it's got competition for that.

After that, it would depend almost totally on the type of crowd it draws which is impossible to control. Add one good 'hen party' and you have a banner night... add 3 'stag parties' and no one will go near the place.

I personally quite enjoyed the place during my last stay as the drinks were good, the location was great and the people were, by in large not dickish.

My girl and I will probably swing by several times on this trip to start our nights or to hang out during the day.

Some suggestions:

To find an excellent underground DJ who can't command a huge ass deal is probably hard as hell. Being able to find and recruit talent of any type that someone else hasn't found is like winning the lotto. Suggestion - Do like Space did and host a spotlight talent contest. Possibly expand the concept to a good podcast with a bunch of followers that is willing to host a contest for residency nights. You help a DJ, they have people that will come to hear them live. Also the publicity alone of a podcast being 'hosted' by Bora Bora, the best beach bar in Ibiza will bring droves of fans into the place who have never even been there. You got a good legend already, you just haven't marketed it.

Food... FFS keep it simple. If you f up a burger and fries or chicken fingers god help you. Good, no frills, fast food that any schmuck with directions can't f up. Follow it up with a wait staff that does not wait around. Ibiza has got to be heaven for cheap expendable labor.

Drinks. Beer and Cocktail menu. Beer because it's good and cheap with a decent profit, cocktails because girls like them and the profit margin is higher that straight rail drinks.

meh my $.02

Saw some of the Chus and Ceballos set on thursday.

Really good set by them. Was not as rammed as I would've thought, I mean when will you be able to see these guys play for free like that?

Maybe it's just these DJ's arent as well known to the kids these days. I'm sure half of the people there wouldn't have known who was playing.

Still the vibe was good and had a great time none the less.

Definitely not that - there are loads of them can't get a gig playing decent music in Ibiza for love nor money !

Dunno why but I can't imagine a proper underground dj playing at bora bora anyway. Imagine some1 like for example Ed Davenport playing there? No I can't imagine it somehow!

Why do they pull that curtain across?

I agree with everything in this post.... I had a few similar ideas also. I would play there or enter a comp too, i would be more exciting playing there and expressing yourself than I would do in Space..

First of all, I'd like to say that I find it really great the interest that people are taking in Bora Bora Ibiza. It is obvious that it is a special place for many people and they want to see it at the heights of years gone by. As I have said before on this forum, this season we have been upping our game to take Bora Bora Ibiza back to where it should be, and we intend to continue with this plan.

Thankfully, most of the hen and stag parties confine themselves to San Antonio's west end. We have a loyal following that come back year after year (ranging from the more chilled music fans to the absolutely nuts) and help built the atmosphere we are famous for.

Obviously we cannot compete financially with the big clubs who are changing €50 at the door for entry, nor would we want to. Part of the beauty of Bora Bora Ibiza is that it is a free party with more freedom than you get in the clubs. Freedom to dance on tables or just lie on the beach enjoying the tunes.

There are some DJs that recognise this and to play here and be part of this is more of a draw to them than big bucks being offered the clubs. This can be seen with some of the guest we have had down this season and in previous years. I can't think of another bar that doesn't charge entry that can attract the DJ talent that we do. Last years guest DJs included Paul Oakenfold, Sander Van Doorn, Yousef, Steve Lawler, Riva Starr, John Acquaviva, Sonique, Roger Shah, Olivier Giacamotto, Aly & Fila, DJ Oliver & Baby Marcelo, Basti Grub and Who da Funk. This year will be even bigger!

Definitely not that - there are loads of them can't get a gig playing decent music in Ibiza for love nor money !

Let's not forget that we have a team of fantastic resident DJ's that are in demand around the world themselves. We also have a few things in the pipeline that I'm sure will keep you guys looking for some underground talent happy.

There are big things to come.....
I will keep you posted.

was there with friends a week back on the saturday and we had a smashing time .....;)
before getting passes into cafe ole 8)

I've always thought it would be better to have the DJ "booth" situated a bit further forward to help on the interaction, a set up where the feet fish were would be superb in my view.

Mmmh...
gonna miss DJ CHUS mid september...:?

of course this kind of sound rulZ.... was a big fan of iberican sound 8) ...
Stereo records , beatfreak records; this label have amazing tunes (from early 2000...)
Dj Oliver, Christian Valera...yes 'im more into this kind of "House music" (Cesar del rio,Dr Kucho)
i've seen non a post that dj Sebastian Gamboa play at LIO café?...
Inaky Garcia play at formentera?...
This is the kind of dj i want to listen to in ibz:any recommendations?

I found that House music tend to be more popular & more "crap" also...it's why i gave up to go to the white island after 2003...Don't stand on me to go on a FMIF party  ...

Bring Back House Music & not the fooking cheezy commercial crap :spank:
