We'll Keep the Blue Flag Flying

No less than 13 of Ibiza's beaches have this year been awarded the Blue Flag - which signifies the high standard of cleanliness of the beach and water.

The beaches which will hoist the Blue Flag are, Cala Vadella, Cala Conta, Cala Bassa, Cala Jondal, Cala Grassio, Cala Salada, Puerto San Miguel, Cala San Vicente, Arenal Gran, Cala Llenya, Es Cana, Santa Eulalia, and Cala Llonga.

The water around Ibiza is wonderfully clean.

I did a bit of snorkling last summer and didn't see a floating condom or sanitary towel once!

A blue flag not only means good quality of water, because there's lots of beaches and coves that you've not mentioned that still have crystal clear water.

Blue flag also means: (taken from http://www.mayo-ireland.ie/Mayo/CoDev/BlFgBchs.htm )

Coastal Quality
The beach and its immediate hinterland must comply with development plans drawn up according to planning laws and regulations.

Safety and Management
In order to keep the area tidy and clean, there must be enough litter and garbage containers. On beaches unauthorized driving, beach bike or car races are not allowed during the bathing season. Likewise, dumping and un-authorized camping is prohibited. Regulations concerning the access of dogs, horses and other pets to the beach must be enforced.

among others.

This way, virgin beaches, despite being gorgeous and perfect for snorkelling will not get a blue flag.
