Doherty walks free on technicality


Rock star Pete Doherty walked free from court today after charges of breaching his bail were dropped.
Doherty, 28, was due to appear before West London Magistrates after he was arrested yesterday in Tower Hamlets, east London.
The charge of breaching conditional bail was dropped on a technicality as he was not produced before the court within 24 hours, prosecutor Anjulika Vatish said.

During a hearing which lasted just a couple of minutes, Ms Vatish said: "The court has no jurisdiction to deal with this matter any more."
She said Doherty, who did not appear in court today, had been released.
District Judge Susan Williams agreed the court had no jurisdiction as Doherty had been arrested at 2.35am yesterday.
She said: "Anyone arrested for a breach of bail must be brought before the court and dealt with in a 24-hour period."
Doherty was held in custody at an east London police station last night.
The latest allegations followed his arrest for suspected drug possession, hours after he performed at the V Festival.
Less than two weeks ago, a judge told Doherty he must kick his drugs habit or go to jail.
The singer admitted driving illegally while in possession of crack, heroin, ketamine and cannabis in Kensington, west London.
Doherty, who enjoyed a high profile relationship with supermodel Kate Moss, has undergone a stomach implant to help him kick drugs.

the hypocricy of people that (i assume) take class A's in abundance on here is startling

the man has an addiction
putting an addict in jail would be like giving an alcoholic a job as a whisky tester
he's is clearly the easy target
but can you see Amy Winehouse getting pulled up and searched every 5 seconds despite the fact that she is a user?

i find it hilarious this time that he didn't "get off" - more a case of the police making a complete arse of the case against him

I can guarantee you any normal joe soap would've been in the slammer for 10+ years an all by now had they been caught as many times as this scumbag,Doherty doesn't even want help for his addiction therefore he should be sent to jail period.
 
he is clearly a tortured soul
but
that does not make him 'cool'
im not liking him as a role model for my young son put it that way -

he needs to get off his smack ass and get his sh*t together - produce some great music, and influence young people in positive creative ways
then it might be worth seeing his mug in the paper everday!

what are you talking about 8O this is actual facts mate not make believe,10+ years maximum sentence if your caught with drugs especially if you are repeatedly caught,it appears Doherty can get away with it but others cant

2 people in fact,one guy who i knew quite well caught with 50 E's,then caught again with a few ounces of hash and a couple of dozen pills got 10 years in jail here,judge was a right c*nt

It's called DON'T GET IN A CAR FULL OF DRUGS, OFF YOUR ASS ON DRUGS, AND DRIVE UP ON THE PAVEMENT! :spank:

It's fine if you're a danger to yourself, but when you're such a danger to others it's time to lock the idiot up.

its very unlikely you'd find heroin users locked up for long periods for sustained use/posession of the drug

im not making out the guys a saint, far from it, but dont throw the book at him cause he uses drugs

No he is not a tortured soul he is a middle class educated kid who decided to become a junkie.

This takes the piss out of the people who became junkies through real hardship and bad things in their life!

I neither like nor dislike him and just think he is a green hued smelly sweaty bawbag with a good songwriting/poetry ability who has wasted his talent.

Im sure people will disagree with me but so what thats my opinion.;)
 
for the record, i dont particularly like the guy, but what a waste of a talent

someone needs to sort him out, i just dont think jail is the best place for a junkie
 
Sick and tired of this junkie, dirty finger nailed , pathetic excuse for a human being. And the guy is a dad. Yeah great role model. gets away with far too much, his far too loyal fanbase need to have a serious word with themselves and stop thinking it's cool to be a robbing dirty junkie. I hope he gets locked up for a long time and beat up in jail.

Absolute waster.
