Get some frozen peas on the painful area - the cold will really help. Hot bathes will on the other hand also help to loosen it up. Back pain is awful - I really feel for you ;)

dont diss umbungo, its fantastic. I just re-discovered it in Asda's chiller cabinets after about 12 years. Immense.
