"The council is trying to enforce the licensing laws for the discos in order to prevent 24-hour-a-day clubbing with punters leaving the big discos en masse and heading for ‘after hours’ clubs. Previously the fine of €150 did little to encourage the discos from complying with the law, now at €3000 for every extra hour open beyond the official time the clubs may just think twice."
