Best Mozzie Defence??

Being an Avon rep lol, I can confirm that its been a popular item for being an insect repellant for many years, it was the Woodland Fresh one, which is now called SSS Dry Oil Body Spray - Soft & Fresh, that you need.

Seems like the active ingredient here is Citronella, I bought a bag of 20 tea light candles today (Citronella version) tied it up in another bag, still stinkingup the house !
Making my eyes water, anyone used these before ?

We buy bottles of citronella oil and the villa we use has loads of pottery oil burners - we just light them when eating out on the terrace too - seem to work a little anyway...

Thanks for everybodys help.

Puppy I will try it out this year and let you know how I get on. How many times a day did you need to apply it?

Mainly mozzies appear around sunset so we would shut all the windows/screens and pop on the a/c for the rooms, then he would spray his body where it was on show, ie hands/wrists, ankles/feet and neck etc so every day around that time was spray time...., also after showering, before going to bed he would spray himself.

its dry oil so it doesnt stain or stay greasy and the smell isnt that bad at all - it just smells like sun lotion or something like that. Also about an hour before bed - spray your rooms with the mozzie sprays - curtains, under the bed (I even sprayed in the wardrobes )

he only got bitten it seemed when we ran out on the last 2 days....

Good Luck!8)

Ive just been informed that many people use Avon Skin So Soft on their horses tails to keep the mozzies away. A quick search of the internet revealed that there seems to be lots of uses for this product on animals as well as humans.

undate from may'june hols.only had one little bite.on my leg.very hot time i went.1/2 rain thats all.and that was the night they got me.

Mozzies don't usally like me but for some reason I got attacked by them last week in Ibiza.

I had to buy some 'After Bite' from the Pharmacy *itch* :spank:

Hi Guys,

Just back from Ibiza and thankfully escaped the usual mozzie attack thanks to everybody's help.

Took Puppys advise and used the B1 vitamins 2 weeks before I left as well as the Avon soft and dry oil spray. Took the plug in's also.

Found I had a less angry reaction to the two bites I got , which I put down to the B1 tablets as the bites I got were on the 2nd night on a beach.

I did some homework and found out that they breed and live in Sand and have to have water nearby, so the further you are away from sand and water, the less chance you have of seeing them.

The Avon spray seemed to work also and it was only because of my sweating brow that I was bitten.

I met locals who have rarely been bitten so there is a reason why the bite some people and don't bite others. I reckon its got to do with vitamin imbalance within your blood...but that's just a idea.

Once again thanks to everybody for their help:D

I've found the little sticks you rub on are best, think it's yellow with a red cap. Have used the sprays before but they can end up choking you to death

"...
Mosquitoes

Each year a fumigation programme is carried out to control the number
of mosquitoes across the wetlands of the island.

However, this year those involved explained that the work was going to be
unusually complicated, due to the abnormal rainfall and high temperatures
during early spring.

So much so, a technical specialist has been employed to join the current team.
He will co-ordinate between the company carrying out the work and the people
living in the area, whilst a GPS system has been incorporated to detect zones
where mosquitoes congregate.

The poison which they use is selective and ecological as it is only the larva
which is affected by the spray, and not the adults.
Every so often the process needs to be repeated, as “after ten days the poison
loses effectiveness, but after twelve days, in strong sunshine,
it has lost all its properties”.
Only in the case of heavy rainfall, when the insects become more active,
will a spray be used to actually kill the adults, but with a low dosage
which does not affect bees.
The use of these pesticides is not permitted in ses Salinas, as it is a protected area.

The Environment Councillor also commented that half-built properties in the area
were also not helping matters.

He explained that on returning to the island by plane at the beginning of the week,
he had noticed a new building development in Talamanca with 70 swimming pools
all containing untreated water.
As the complex is under construction no maintenance has been carried out
on the pools, which need to be kept full of water, and which could cause
enormous mosquito problems in this part of Ibiza Town.

one of the biggest mozzie-populations i saw @ ibiza was around that pond
from boutique hostal salinas ;)

The active ingredient you seek is called deet. Usually around 6% deet is the highest concentration without having to ask for it. I don't think you need a perscription, but y'all are in England, so probably don't anyway. I don't remember if "deet" is trade-marked or a generic term, but it is found OFF! bugspray. Ask at your local friendly bait & tackle (fishing gear) store.
