Being really old...

Life is just luck of the draw in my opinion, nothing you can do is gonna slow down/speed up your life expectancy! When your times up, it's up!

Not true. Your lifestyle makes all the difference. A large percentage of premature deaths in the world are preventable. Smoking is the single most important cause of preventable disease and premature death in the UK.

glasgow chick SOMETIMES its a matter of lifestyle, Linda McCartney was the most healthy vegetarian woman but she died fairly young of cancer still....

Who said that vegetarian is the healthiest? :?
And... can you prevent cancer? :?

What GC says it's true. People with healthy life-styles has less risk to have an heart attack, for exemple

I personally DONT think vegetarians are healthier than us who enjoy the carnal dishes....no i´d rather say it was a matter of taste if youre a vegetarian, rather than for health reasons. my sis´is a veggie and she does this only becuz she pukes whenever meat gets into her mouth....she sais: anything with eyes or with a pulse is not food! lol* i tend to agree but still I love chicken and fish....

Nevertheless. You cant prevent cancer but think about what you eat: all the "nutritions" that have been artificially and chemically implanted in your food, all the things farmers spray vegestables with on the fields and so on...im sure this can be linked directly with cancer to a certain extent!

It's all about risk. You can decrease your risk of developing cancer by leading a healthier lifestyle. There are people who are unlucky enough to have cancer in the family e.g a woman with a mother and grandmother dying of breast cancer. In this case they ofter get preventative surgery such as removal of healthy breast tissue.

Sorry Ig, but it sounds like a contradiction. You first say it's not about lifestyle and now you say it has to see with what you eat.
Healthy lifestyle involves healthy food from healthy farms. ;)

I know. Some unlucky people might have a genetic prediposition to certain illness which they are unlikely to be able to avoid. A person with the lung cancer gene is much less likely to get lung cancer if they don't smoke. It's a combination of genes and lifestyle (nature and nurture).

EEE ... as long as I go out smiling, I'll be ok ! Life willl have been good !

So then why do babies get cancer? Why did that old woman who smoked all her life live til 105?

I'd say yes, your lifestyle can make a difference in the short term, but I think if something is destined to happen, then it will, whether you are the healthiest person on earth or not!

I think genes and exercise play a massive part,my gran died this year at 90,she smoked most of her life, and drank, but she was always on the go,her family are all long lived, but when they were growing up they never had central heating, cars etc sooo I dunno!and there were no chemicals hardly in the food they ate,I'm beginning to think today that we're slowly being poisoned by the food we eat and this generation will never reach the age of our grandparents, only time will tell!!!!

...well, here I sit, my 30th birthday looming on the horizon and I thought & I'd come on here and cheer myself up  Not only that but, due to my recent eye ops I've been out of the gym for 2 months and longing to return......I was going to have a healthy brekkie but funk it - a fry up me thinks and i'll savage my advent calendar choccies for afters I reckon!!

A Trabeculectomy and another to re-open it IG...not a pretty sight hahaha

DJ Soulman.....I doft my flat cap to you sir....p1ss funny

get over it...we are all getting older, why not enjoy what you have but be somewhat sensible so you can enjoy it for longer, a compromise if you like
