Exactly. Truth be told, though, he's not getting THAT big a salary. The US league has a salary cap and, while they make exceptions (this being one of them), his base salary won't be very much.

Most of the avg $50m/year ($250m over 5 years) will be his image rights and endorsements, from which he will fully benefit. Contrast that with Real Madrid, where much of this kind of revenue went straight to the club. LA Galaxy will benefit from gate receipts, increased TV exposure and general increased interest in the club (and any revenue streams they can create from that). Win-win for everyone.

It's a great boost for the MLS. Aside from raising the profile of the league, it will be a first (small) step in improving the quality of play. Contrary to what's believed in Europe, tons of American kids play soccer (up until high school). Hopefully, the publicity you get from a player like Beckham will convince more to stick with it up to the professional level. Maybe it will also increase more European players to join the league before they turn 35 :lol: (in the tradition of Pele, Best, Beckenbauer, etc.)

It's crystal clear that posh wears the trousers in that relationship, on one of her numerous trips to USA she befriends celebritys like Tom Cruise and his missus and tastes a bit of Hollywood glamour, likes it so orders David to finish up with Real and move to USA, he probably wanted to stay @ Real Madrid.

Beckham whilst not the player he was still has a few years in him yet and is obviously a wealthy man so i don't think it's the money it's posh, i admire him as a footballer but as a man he is a wimp, any man who lets his wife/partner dictate to him is sad in my book, any ambitious footballer would rather stay @ a club like Real Madrid than go to USA where half the people couldn't care less (or don't even know) about football, auld Morbyd here is the exception even if he does support the rent boys :lol:

Any man who gets caught dicking the nanny and possibly others, but it still desperate to live with his children, is in a seriously weak negotiating position with she is missus, no?
 
I agree, more power to him. But I would be very surprised if there is any impact on attracting middle America to soccer. It would be great if he does have an impact, but I will not hold my breath.

Soccer is now a game that is basically played by pre-teen and teenage kids in affluent suburbs of major cities; with soccer mommies taking their kids in their gas guzzling SUVs and standing by the sidelines checking out each other designer handbags, size of their diamond rings, etc. and then jumping on the coach if he/she is a tad bit tough on their kid. Once these kids are done with their youth leagues the whole soccer thing just disappears like a fart in the wind. In simple terms it is a sport that is currently enjoyed by a generation that is pampered and spoiled beyond belief.

Do you really believe what the gutter tabloid press write?I for one am still very sceptical as to whether or not that story was true knowing the tart who was behind it, regardless no real man should ever let his missus dictate to what he says or does, if he does he is a wimp in my book, im sure there's a few of those "metro sexual men":roll: out there who do let their birds dictate to them, sad fcuks:p

If the sport is to be "sold" in the US it would have to be called soccer. We already have football over here. Trying to displace the name of the sport that we call football is futile and a bad marketing strategy.
 
He would have been better goin to Bollywood with Shilpa out of big brother ....well the stick insect would have been in her element!
