AUSTRALIA!! ADVICE PLEASE!!!!

Hi guys I'm doing OZ for 2 -3 weeks this coming Easter!! We are spending a week in Sydney and the rest is yet to be decided which is where I'm hoping you guys can help!! What are the absolute must do things and places in your opinions??? What should we do in Sydney itself and where else up and down the east coast should we go and what should we do there???? All advice will be really appreciated!!!
 
Hey there kn1980. I live in Adelaide. Now as much as I would like to say come to Adel, there is not an awful lot to do here. BUT I would highly recommend a visit to Queensland, more accurately the Gold Coast, Surfers Paradise. Bloody Brill!!! Its the Ibiza of Australia! Theme Parks, beaches, beaches, beaches and all that comes with them!!!?!?

You can get a coach trip up the east coast from Sydney, so you can see the sights. Or even better drive it. It's about 1000km's.

Rent a motorhome or campervan in Sydney. Head up the coast stopping where you feel like. Forget Surfers Paradise, it's not so good. Go to Byron Bay.

In full agreement there!

Having said that, there's loads of cool things to do in Sydney. Obviously visit the beaches. Everyone goes to Bondi and Manly, but try going up the northern beaches to Dee-why, Freshwater, Palm etc, a lot less crowded and more 'authentic' Aussie beaches.

The food in Sydney is just spectacular. Darling St in Balmain has some lovely restaurants. China town also has some of the best asian food I've ever tasted. Seafood is also world famous - back when I lived there it was all about Doyles seafood restuarant..

For touristy stuff, try doing a bridge climb, visiting the sydney aquarium, catching a ferry from circular quay to Manly beach.. also if you're there in the summer months there will be lots of outdoor concerts in the Domain which are great.

For clubs, personally I'm not a big fan of Sydney clubs, with one exception: Sounds on Sunday at the Greenwood Hotel in North Sydney runs from 2pm til 11pm (I think) and is really good fun :) Arq on Tayor Square can be a bit scary (lots of very big burly dudes with no shirts on) but seems to be the liveliest club in Sydney (I have been away for 4 years though so locals please correct me).

My favourite pubs in Sydney are:
The Newport Arms, Newport - mostly outdoors with a great view.
The Oak, North Sydney / Neutral Bay - cook your own steak!
Customs House, Circular Quay - old converted building with trendy wine bar and top floor restaurant
Greenwood Hotel - old converted schoolhouse, also has a restaurant, but best on Sundays :)

Well hope that helps. Someone who actually lives there is likely now to tell you I am 4 years behind!

These are the guys I rented the motorhome off. http://www.manlyrentals.com.au About £50 per day, it has a shower, fridge, cooker, 2 double beds etc.
We were buying steaks, fish, shrimps etc and having a big F-Off barbacue every night. Buy a table cloth, candles and some cool music and do it in style .
Also agree that Sydney is worth a good look around, especially the Northern Beaches.
Also good is the Blue Mountains to the West and Jarvis Bay to the South.
A good itinery would be Sydney > Jarvis Bay > Blue Mountains Then head north stopping off where you feel like. ( Creasent Head, Moonee Beach, Scotts Head all good )

By the way, are 3/4 length pants (for guys) popular and easily available in Australia. My best friend is going to Sydney for a couple of weeks, and I am going to ask her to get me a few pairs. They are extremely difficult to find in CA. Mark, do you remember the good shopping areas?

3/4 pants for guy are out of fashion in melbourne n prob sydney, actually i dont think they were ever in fashion.

but im pretty sure u can still buy them if u look hard enough.
