Cadiz in
Spain used to be a haven for nudists looking for that all over tan while spending their two week break on the beach. However from this summer onwards visitors to the area will be facing fines of up to €750 if they decide they want to strip off.
Some members of the public have berated the decision by the local town hall as ‘illegal’ and ‘unconstitutional’. In particular a group called the
Spanish Naturist Federation (SNF) is greatly opposed to the idea.
The new law has some grey areas and some tourists to the area are wondering whether they will be fined for going topless or fined if their children are running around with no clothes on. Most visitors to the beaches around Cadiz said that they had no problem with others who wish to dispose of their clothes, but suggested that maybe there should be a separate area for nudists.
For the past twenty years Spain has allowed naked or topless bathing on their beaches, but the town hall has said that nudists have began to take over their beaches scaring off families who wish to travel there. The SNF have said that tourism to the area could be damaged if this law carries on.
Police have been patrolling the beaches and have told tourists of the new laws but as of yet, no fines have been imposed.
