I don't think any of us do that

You just said you give her a 'budget' and then she 'bugs you for money' :? I just thought they were suprising things to say, we have the view that's what mine is Toms and what's Tom is mine and everything is joint and both of us can spend how we want on what we want.

Uh, ya, generally true for us too... but you don't spend so much that you can't make your bills, pay for trips, or put something in the bank, right? You set some limits on your spending, right? Concretely or intuitively?

We've always got money in the bank so we've never had to set any limits, if either of us wants something we just get it, there's never been a case of 'no you can't have this or that'.

Even having money in the bank I'm sure you have mental limits and I'm sure there's things you like but are too expensive (even having the money in the bank).
Does it make sense? :?

I spose it helps that I have quite cheap tastes  But me and Tom have so few outgoings that most of the money we have is ours to just piss up the wall however we want

Is that lost in translation Sil

Piss up the wall = waste it as we see fit

I earn a fraction to what my husband does, he doesn't set any limits on what I can/cant buy and in return I don't take the pish.

I'd love to have the kind of money where I can be a shop-a-holic! Normally once I've paid off my car loan/credit card/rent etc there's barely enough left to buy a pair of earrings let alone a pair of shoes

I do have the occasional blow-out though on my credit card, when I'll just think "funk it" and just buy myself a nice new outfit.

Jon is SOOOOO sensible with money though, sometimes I feel he's like my dad, telling me off about my debts  Whenever I do make any new purchases I always hide the bags because I know Jon will moan at me for buying clothes

Same here, Sandi, and I do charge with most of the homeworks, cos he earns much more than me but he does spend much more hours at work than me :D

  Classic! (you don't do you!) If you must at least piss up someone else's wall babs.

I'm surprised you haven't been driving down Ealing Broadway and seen me and Tom simultaneously pissing up some of the walls 8O

I should probably be more explicit here so that everyone doesn't think I lock the missus in a closet and only let her out of the house once a week with a fiver in her pocket

I do budgets. I like budgets. I like to budget how much we (together) spend each month on going out and eating out, how much on regular expenses (rent, groceries, cell phone), how much we save (for future trips, rainy day etc.). Sometimes budgets work, sometimes they don't. Sometime you buy extra stuff. That's all I meant earlier.

For people who don't think up concrete budgets, you probably have a mental one that limits your spending. If not, you'd be broke.
