Are the club owners thick?

I mean charging the bar prices they do?

I think they would make more money from selling drink at the same price as bars here, a. more people would buy drinks b. there would be less reluctance from people to visit the bars at big clubs?

I know, you're right. I mean, Pacha has been there for 31 years, you'd have thought they'd have sussed out how to make money by now. ;)

hook,

leave sarcasm at the door please.

halo, it's certainly a way of keeping the wrong sort of person out of the clubs. it's up to you what you understand by 'wrong sort of person' ;-)

i think the ideal solution would be to give soft drinks and water at much cheaper prices - 3 to 4 euros, but keep the alcohol prices up.

something many overlook is that you get at least a triple measure of vodka in your glass - what would a triple vodka cost in london??

keep non-alcoholic prices low and the beer monsters would still stay away, but us normal people could go out a bit more often?

I don't think price of alcohol is bad at all in Ibiza, in London clubs I pay £5-6 for glass of wine, £6-8 for vodka plus mixer so there's no real difference.

Only gripe is as James said of price of water and soft drinks

they don't need to charge less though do they?

when clubs are almost full for most of the season then you could argue that the club owners definately aren't thick.

and like barbie says the difference between drinks in london and ibiza clubs is marginal (apart from the measure you get)

So in theory you're getting a better deal on alcohol in Ibiza clubs than in London clubs :D

maybe.... but there's certainly not enough difference to moan about or put you off going to a night you want to go to.

if your into the line up/night/genre and you're passionate about it then you don't mind paying.

and i've payed £4 for diddier bottles of water that you get in ibiza at fabric/turnmills etc. when lots of people are just having beans and not drinking the club is gonna tap into that market legally if they can hence high soft drink prices.

it's just business sense isn't it...

Couldn't agree more, I think only complaint that people can have re drinking in Ibiza clubs is not being able to drink tap water and compare that to when you're clubbing back at home and you buy bottle of water then fill up in toilets. Altho saying that did you ever go to Home in it's short-lived days  they turned all the cold water taps off in toilets so you couldn't fill water bottle up or get drink, which is pretty much illegal in this country.

Anyway I'm going off on a tangent here  but at end of day people pretty much know what they're going to be paying, if they don't like it go elsewhere cos while 1000s and 1000s of people every season pay drinks prices in clubs why are the club owners going to change, at end of day they're running a business (most of which is spread over just 4 months of year) and not a charity.

No never went to home but heard about that, and it's very illegal in this country. By law you can walk off the street into any food/drink place and ask for a glass of water.

Re ibiza, if you want cheap drink there are many other resorts around the med you can choose. If you want the best parties and the best dj's then you just have to accept that you don't get it for free.

Anyway, if for example you have a vodka limon in space it's gonna be at least a triple UK measure. If you have a triple vodka and mixer in most standard UK pubs there's not gonna be much difference in their price to space price. (I think i said this above already but i'm a bit delirious this morning)

Barbie: you feeling up to the baby party? 8O

Sorry, I disagree. I think the drink prices are high because they want to make lots of money and there are always people willing to pay. If the owners were worried about who's coming to their clubs there would be some kind of a door policy, wouldn't they? Since there is none what so ever, they don't seem worried to me.

Don't know about the vodka measures, but the beer and water bottles are the same size. They cost about 8 euro's overthere compared to about 2 euros in Holland.

I take onboard what most of you say, however.....

Just because they can charge the prices they demand does that mean they should? There are probably a lot of clubbers who go without drinking the required amount of water during the night because of the price, that is dangerous and obscene.

Secondly, there seems to be the attitude that they will pay the price I demand; it's a very strange attitude I wonder how this policy would change if clubbers were not to go to the clubs in the way they have been. Consider the exchange rate changes over the last few years since the Euro came in. You don't get the same bang for your buck anymore and it's not getting any better. I do not think for one moment that the prices have any other benifit than to the club owners pocket, i just think that they would make more money selling more drinks at a cheaper price!

In fact a smart club owner could measure the effect of doing a drink promotion on a big night, say promote a bottled bear at half their normal price for one night as a pilot then do a like for like comparison with the same night the previous week, I would bet they sell more and the profits are up on the promoted brand. An additional benift would be that they would attract more people through the door.

It doesn't sound very promising at the moment although the pics on tilllate.com looked great and the right kinda crowd, that's not what people on hear have said tho. I won't miss it tho, i'll have to go see for myself. and if it's not that good then the carry on will make up for it.

I imagine you are over the baby party now so how was it? 8O 8O

Ain't up to much at all, don't go. If you never been before go for the experience, that's it. Go to bed early and be refreshed for a cracking Space in the morning till 6 PM ! That's how the sensible people do it, or if your bad then you can do both and just get E'd up to the max. But for the few non druggies out there, its tough doing both.

mish isn't everyones taste, the same as the west end  isn't but i see on another thread how you rate the west end, where I dont.

the moral of the story is we all can like different things. ;)

We used our heads this year when we went to Eden - got a hand stamp, took a little stroll over to Wips, guzzled down a drink, and then went back into Eden 5 mins later  Must have saved us a small fortune in total.
