Arctic Monkeys...

The band member who dropped out just before they made it big works with a colleague of mine's girlfriend just down the road from here.

He's not at all happy now!

:spank:

I listened to 2 of their songs yesterday just to figure out what all the buzz (and album sales) is about.

I can see the appeal, as every once in a while you need a band that rails against overproduction and gloss.

Nevertheless, I didn't think they were anything spectacular. Comparisons to Stone Roses and Charlatans are, of course, sacrilege. Those bands were much more melodic and instrumentally tighter, and with much better vocalists.

at the risk of going on comparisons to the charlatans and stone roses were made on having seen the arctic monkeys now 3 times and having seen the roses many many times including spike island and the charlatans including one of their first gigs at the vic hall in stoke with about only about 200 others so I feel I am able to make such comparisons and probably show my age at the same time!  ... they maybe new now and probably up there to be shot at because of their new found status but having seen many many bands in my time I stand by what I say and my comparisons! Oh just watch the great british public/press look for an angle now now they've built them up:spank: ! Fair play to them I say and they're only 19/20/21 I believe!:!:

I was referring more to their style of music, at least in terms of what's recorded. Arctic Monkey's style is nothing like the other two.

Perhaps there's some similarities in the live show (energy level? performance style?) but I still wouldn't put them in the same bin with Charlatans and Roses.

Hmmm...You've all inspired me to download the album before I go out...will let you know what I think. :?

OK - went into it with a cynical head on - but love the unplugged feel of it.
It's a simple formula but it works! Nothing groundbreaking but very cool and now sounding. 8)

Will I listen to it again? Probably not.
