Aragones Appeal Successful

I think the clearest example of what I try to say is that you seem much more offended by the De mierda bit while I think (me, spanish, who knows the context and the language) the worst is the word Negro. See what I mean?
Yes, but either way you take it, it's meant as an insult, isn't it?

Of course it's an insult
Ok. So, as a Spanish speaker, you recognize that it was an insult.

I think we can also agree that use of the word "Negro" is a reference to race.

So, racial comment plus insult = racial insult.

I'm not sure why you're all saying that context matters here. It doesn't.

Yes, Sil, I know you're saying it's inexcusable and all. But you're still agreeing with Ferd & Grego that there are shades of grey. Unfortunately, (and for lack of a better phrase), it's a black & white question. Is it or isn't it? And you've just said it is.

Morbyd,

BTW morbyd, how many times have I been told that I've been lost in translation cos I haven't been able to calibrate the real meaning and intention of a determined word?
Can't it be the case, specially considering that both spanish of the forum are agreeing in here? And remember that both spanish also agreed that this man is a shame ;)

End of conversation for me Morbyd.

Yes, I saw that Sil. But you've just agreed that it's an insult! And you haven't disagreed that race is included (note what you said above about the "Negro" part being the more offensive). So it is, in fact, a racial insult! I'm going on your interpretation of the language, not my own!

Morbyd are you trying to wind me up? :?

Who said it's not an insult? Who said it's not a racist insult?

Have you understood what we tried to say previously about context? Or am being silly trying to converse with you on that cos there's no way you accept our arguments?

And by the way, you can't interprete his words cos it was IN SPANISH, A LANGUAGE YOU CAN'T SPEAK ANYMORE. So, if you accept this or never in your life come saying I'm lost in translation. Si? :?

And stop using abusive language to me.

Sil don't waste your time, come and talk wedding make-up with me  ;)

What abusive language? :?

And my point all along was simple that context doesn't matter here. If you disagree, then lets agree to disagree on this one, ok? ;)

(and as for my Spanish, I haven't lost all of it, dear ;))

Yeah, whatever Morbyd, you are master in spanish and you know all the meaning and intentions of any swearword and their combinations  :?

Sil, I don't get what we're arguing about here. You agree it's racist insult. What's the argument? Where's my language comprehension factor in this :?

So you just want to say that it's culturally not so bad in Spain to make racist insults? Well, ok, but that doesn't excuse it in my eyes. It is what it is, whereever it is. If someone said it to me, I wouldn't excuse it because "oh well, people aren't so worried about racist insults here."

where did I say it's not that bad to make racist insults? :?
I say that THAT insult it's not that bad, here all the context explanations you seem no to read and ignore. And when I say THAT I mean De MIerda, which you translate like SHít but I would say it's closer transaltion would be Silly.

:?

That's the first time you've offered an alternative translation of the phrase, Sil. If that's the correct translation, something like "Silly Black guy", then it's less offensive than "Black sh1t", but still unpleasant.

Here, we're talking less about the cultural context (which is what we were discussing before) than we are about the definition (and/or translation) of the phrase.

In the UK and USA you can't get away with calling someone a "Black" anything that's perjorative - whether "silly" or "shi*" - without sounding like a member of the BNP or Ku Klux Klan. A despicable white racist, in other words.

It's one bit of political correctness I entirely support.

A more interesting debate is whether members of a particular group should use such epithets among themselves. For example, if a homosexual says something's too "gay", why is that acceptable in a way that it would not be if a straight person said it?

Or, is it really okay for black people to call each other "nigger"?

Does that "reclaim" these insults? Or perpetuate the poisonous terms our languages are littered with?

And excuse me if my knowledge of english slang is not perfect and excuse me I need a bit of help to know exactly what does it mean "shít" for you and the equivalent into spanish. But if you are that inteligent and you can still speak spanish why don't you do it on your own?
Thanks god I advised messages before I have lacks in english to discuss it. Thanks for your patiente.

Now go and send a complain to the Spanish FA and let me alone :?

:?:

I just don't get what you're upset about, Sil.

If you felt I've been abusive to you, I want you to know that I haven't. Perhaps it's my style of writing or something, but please don't take this personally!

And if I seemed agitated at all in this discussion, it's only because I'm a bit sensitive on this issue, which I hope you understand.

Now, off to write the Spanish FA some hate mail ;)

The word is not abusive, but I can't find a better translation for "Apretarme". It's still more complicated to translate slang, it's complicated to explain a slang word in your language, try to find the perfect translation

I totally understand you are sensitive on that issue and I can repeat as much as necessary that Aragonés is a shame and the Spanish FA is a shame.

I was trying to make clear the context bit, but you just messed me up :?
