Hi! I`m going to Judgement Sunday the 25 july and noticed that some dude named Alex Kunnari is playing along Jules, Halliwell and Lashes. And well.. I`ve never heard of the guy. So, does anyone here have a clue what style he plays? I think maybe he`s Finish or something. When i searched for him on google some Finish pages popped up.. I know people here will slag me off for not going to "we love" but I like my Hard House :)

He is not finished yet. But he really is finnish ;)

Alex Kunnari has his own club "Club Colors" in Finland. He is the resident DJ. Some of his guests: PVD, Tiesto, Erick Morillo, Judge Jules, Eddie Halliwell, Ferry Corsten, Tall Paul... His next guest DJ is Paul Oakenfold 27.8.

Alex has played in Ibiza from 1995. Usually he plays trance in Finland because it is the most popular genre here. I can guess it can be prog or hard trance too in Judgement Sunday but not hard house. Depends on set time too. I really don't know :?:

Here is his bio taken from www.clubcolors.net.. we sould get him to play also to Sweden!!!

The time before djing

My name is Alex Kunnari and I was born in 1974 in Northern Finland in a town called Kemi. As Judge Jules said in his radio show on BBC 1 on 18th October 2003 when he chose my new tune for Tried and Tested tune: “Finland is not well known for great music records but it is known for Santa Claus and Lapland, which is a bit ironic because this man who has hosted me well in Finland, when I have played there, is originally from Lapland himself.” What comes to the club music scene in Lapland, it´s light years away from the scene in Helsinki. and to be in the situation I find myself today as a dj I´m as amazed as anyone that I have come this far. And, when I find myself in the situation like this, as a dj, I´m as amazed as anyone that I have come this far.

The story about my first steps to the world of music starts from the year 1988 when I was 14 years old. I was extremely interested in music and I tried to get my hands on and keep up with all the new records and music styles that were available. In the ages from 13 to 15 I did break dance acts around Finland with a few of my mates. I was young but very well aware of what was going on in the music. When I was 15 a local program agency asked me to start to play records. In the beginning I wasn’t even remotely familiar with any basic terms of djing. For example I didn’t have any idea what mixing tunes meant. My first dj-gig was in 1989 and to my own surprise it went better than well. After I started to get more gigs I took a habit of saving all the money I got from those so that I could buy me my own set of Technics MK 1200 turntables. Personally I think that still, after playing records for 15 years, I learn more and more about playing records and music on each gig.

The journey from Lapland to Helsinki

In 1993 I moved to Oulu, which is the biggest city of Northern Finland, to play records and to study economics. I got a residency from Oulu’s major venue, which was called DNC. In 1995 I got an offer to start to play in a legendary venue called Happy Days in Helsinki. At that time Happy Days was the most famous nightclub not only in Finland but also in the entire Scandinavia. I was honoured to have a chance to play there.
Since I moved to Helsinki in 1995 a lot has happened to me. I have played at all the major nightclubs in Finland. I have usually been a resident DJ for few years at one club and then moved forward, sometimes averaging 250 - 300 gigs per year. During the 15 years of djing I have played in several clubs in Finland either as a guest dj or resident: Berlin, BNC, Café Opera, Café Barock, Club Focus, Club Nelson, DNC, DTM, Donna K, Gigglin Marlin, Factory, Happy Days, Hype, Helsinki Club, Hesperia, Kiva, Labyrinth, Lepakko, Metro, Metropoli, Nylon, Nite Train, Night Life, Old Fox, Rooma, Roba and Tiger.

DJing in other countries

I got my first gig abroad in 1992 and since then I have played in several European countries such as Spain, Sweden, France, Ireland, Greece, UK, Portugal and Estonia. During the last nine summer seasons (1995-2004) I have played in Ibiza, performing well over 200 gigs at leading venues Amnesia, Es Paradis Terrenal, Pacha, and Space.
Residencies at the moment and my music style
At the moment I’m a resident dj at Helsinki Club and at Club Colors, which is my own event, and is held regularly in Finland with guest djs from abroad. At Club Colors’s parties we have had guest djs like Judge Jules, DJ Tiësto, Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Eddie Halliwell, Tall Paul, Jeremy Healy, Mario Piu and Agnelli & Nelson to name but a few. In 2004 the list will be completed with Eric Morillo and Paul Oakenfold.
In the beginning of spring 2002 I started residency at Ministry Of Sound and Gods Kitchen events in Helsinki. In addition to playing at those clubs I also promote them.

When djing, my musical style varies from progressive house to trance. In my club sets I mainly play trance but I may include some house or techno tunes too, if they fit in my set.

My own tunes

I have done my own tunes under the name Modulation and my first tune was called 'Darkstar’. In the UK cool cuts chart the tune peaked number 11 in the winter 2002. All the major djs around Europe have played 'Darkstar' and the audience’s reaction has been very good. DJ magazine rated 'Darkstar' as a 5/5 star tune and Muzik magazine gave 4/5 stars to it. After the first release I have made several remixes for well-known artists.
My last Modulation ‘Spirits’ tune was Judge Jules’s Tried and Tested tune on 18th of October 2003! Judge Jules played my ‘Spirits’ tune on his BBC 1 radio shows for five weeks. Mixmag gave 4/5 stars to ‘Spirits’. ‘Spirits' is also heavily played by Paul van Dyk, DJ Tiësto, Johan Gielen, Armin van Buuren, Darude, Matt Hardwick, Ferry Corsten etc.
‘Spirits’ is out on Paul van Dyk's Vandit label in the GAS area and on Ferry Corsten's Tsunami label in the rest of the world. I have next Modulation tune called ‘Sky’ ready to be published and it is promising to be even bigger tune than the earlier one. ‘Sky’ will be out on Vandit and Tsunami in this spring 2004...
