Anyone help?

Things have looked up slightly this week:

Have written all the letters I was gonna send out, just need to get them posted. Have also had a meeting with another agency, so looks promising.

Best bit though, have just secured a temp job in the meantime which is a promotion from my previous job, pays much more money, and will look very good on my c.v.

Just my 10 cents....

My company has a POPI policy... Protection Of Proprietry Information, which means that you can't give out names. They even go as far as disciplining you if you leave an extension list on your desk (I'm Ok though as don't have a desk let alone an extension list, just a laptop and lounge access). I think that they must have some 'questionable' cleaners at the office ! Many desktops have found their way out over the years I believe.

Lot's of companies are paranoid about headhunting agencies clearing them out so are suspicious of speculative callers. It's a jungle out there mate.

And just to add to the fun.. I too have a 2:1 but have never needed to rely on it to get a position.

My advice... go to the office with your CV in an envelope then ask the person at the front desk to write the relevant name on and send it. Obviously this has some logistical problems should you wish to adopt a scatter gun approach to job hunting.

Anyway.. come the summer you'll be bored of it all and heading down to Ibiza for 3 months :P

Fergie I know we've talked about this loads before and my (grown-up :lol: ) advice is to try and get a graduate job as opposed to just applying for random jobs out there cos as you're finding out they all require you to have experience (but htf are you sposed to have experience when you've been spending the last 3 years getting a degree). Most companies take on graduates and you'll have a proper training programme etc as well as learning on the job. The danger of just applying for jobs which aren't graduate jobs is that they'll see you as a bit of a dogs body and you could end up doing lots of shit without any proper formulised training.

If you go to your university careers library all the big companies will have brochures which tell you about their graduate programmes and how to apply and they start a various times of the year.

You'll find you'll probably start on a higher salary plus even if you only stay with the company for a couple of years having it on your CV will open so many doors for you.
 
I was going to do that initially, but there's only one thing putting me off: I really don't want to move yet. Thought I did before, but I love my life here just now, and really want to stay up here for a year or two before then assessing my options. :?

However, if another full time job doesnt come along soon, I'll have to make the move.

Lots of my mates up here go for a different option. About 15 of them work offshore in the oil industry; you only have to work for half the year, and starting salary is £30 000, moving easily up to £50 000 within a few years. Not my scene though unfortunately :?

That's the thing you do have to be prepared to relocate, some of them will let you put what area of the country you want to work but you do have to be pretty flexible about location :?

Don't you fancy moving and giving it a go, you're not committing yourself to anything and you can always move back/elsewhere. When I moved down here for a job I never thought I'd be down here forever, I was just going to give it 18 months and then see what happened, 6 and 1/2 years later I'm still here :lol:

Yeah guess I may just have to give it a go. Think I'll just be sad moving away from all my mates up here. Have such a big group of close friends here now it would be very hard at first. :?

I've set myself till the end of January, then after that I'll consider the move. Anyways, gotta go...have a date in half an hour, wish me luck :lol: ;)
