Anyone Been To Meganite?

just a quickie to see if anyone has been to meganite at all this season so far?

if so wots it like?

i saw some pics on the meganite website and they dont really promote it that well

were 48 Euros. I dont care how good a night it may have been, I flatly refuse to pay more than 45 Euros for entry. What swayed us even more was when we found out tickets for Mauro Picotto's brand new night Meganite at Privilege were only 16 Euros, and as we had missed out on Cacoon on Monday we decided to give a techno night a try.
When we arrived at Privilege our eyes nearly popped out of our heads. The entire top balcolony was closed (apart from the VIP area), and a make-shift DJ box had been created in front of the swimming pool and everything behind it curtained off. It was also very empty when we arrived. We spent a while in the back room where Coco Loco were playing some funky house, and by the time we ventured back into the main room again for Picottos set at 2 the open area was full to capacity (still only around 2500 people at the most I would say). We were seriously unimpressed with Picotto. He was a complete nut case, and just seemed to play randomly mashed up beats, not a very good experience for our first ever techno night. However, at 4 Chris Leibling came on and the place was rocking (especially when he dropped Murder Was The Bass into his set).
However, out of the 14 of us that went, only 2 of us were really enjoying it so we decided to cut our losses and leave early.

you wasn't expecting the whole of privilege to be open was you? the only night that uses all areas is Mish. no other night has ever attracted enough people.

the rear half of the privilege main room does have the best sound though.
 
no i wasnt expecting the whole of it to be open,...we went to extravaganza there 1 yr and only half was open and it was sh*t!

but this yr coz its a techno night im gonna attend but i just thought there would have been a slightly better response to it,...bit surprised picotto wasnt to impressive,....but i suppose i'll have to be the judge of that :D
 
I've read 2 other reviews here by people who had already been to Meganite and they said only good things about it from what i recall.
I'll be there anyway to give this new night a chance and support! :P
 
The above review makka was by people who are not really techno fans, so it's easy to understand that they were not impressed.

I have never been a big Picotto fan, but the guest lineups that meganite has this year is brilliant..........and Chris Liebing is one of the best DJ's on the planet.

I'm looking forward to Meganite.

Quite frankly, anything would be better than Erick Morillo's boring brand of predictable house
 
Well I thought it was great! Yes, Picotto appears to have gone mad, he must have been on something last week! But yeah, Chris Leibing was better.

Cocoon was ok, but techno it wasn´t. I dunno what it was! Very very stoppy starty (20 seconds pumping music, then 1 minute of ambience, 30 secs pumping etc argh!!)

Anyone into techno, you´ve got to go to Coxy´s night at Space. I´ve just recovered from that one. It´s by far the best night I´ve had (same as last year, quality through and through and if you like techno it just does not get any better!)

well i shall be attending cocoon, meganite and cox @ space,.....last yr the only techno night i went to was cocoon and it rocked!!!!

both meganite and coxy @ space will have to be blinders to beat last yrs experience
 
Don´t worry - I rate Cocoon 4/10 where Coxy´s was 10/10 easily! It just never stopped!! Believe me, if you thought Cocoon was good, just try Coxy´s night at Space!!

(Meganite was 8/10 btw!)

same plans and same thoughts about last year :D
we're talking about 3 techno nights in a raw this year (actually less than 2 more weeks)... can it get any better than that? ;)

yes i will be.

Coccoon on Monday, carl cox closing on tuesday and then meganite closing on wednesday...........3 better nights i could not hope for.

Looking forward to christian varela again at coxy's closing party........hopefully on 3 decks. The guy is just brilliant.
 
If you can, try and get down to Itaca for the Meganite pre-parties. I went last night, and it was great, only about 15 people there, super chunky sound system, and Picotto followed by Liebing for about 80mins.

They were happy to pose for photos etc for the fanboys and seemed very friendly, well they were about 3 metres away from everyone with no security :-)

I noticed Picotto was drinking champagne/shots while Liebing was on the water, might explain the madness later on at Meganite..!

Well done Itaca, that was the best "pre-party" I´ve been to by a mile, and I´ve been to loads!
