Anyone been to Egypt since...

I'll have you know that a scots man in a kilt is VERY attractive, well worth travelling up to Scotland for.
;)

Specially Mr FunkyLady.

While I'll pass the message on, I think the current Mrs B will still plump for Ibiza....

*stands down*

Yeh, who can blame her to be honest. We are sitting here, on what is meant to be the hottest day of the year, shouting above the sound of the rain and wind clattering at the windows!

Ibiza all the way.

Buckley, friends are there at the moment and they are having a great time. They are in Sharm and said that its not overly busy but not very quiet.

I dont agree with what someone said above saying that its not a safe place to be at the moment. I think its probably one of the safest in that region. The authorities have increased security as you would expect and have claimed that numbers visiting region are nearly back to previous levels.

Id say go and enjoy it. Bet you have a brilliant time. The local people will really appreciate it too as the Balinese did in the aftermath of the Bali bomb.

We're thinking of going to Marrakesh in Nov, has anyone been? Is it a safe place to visit or slightley nutty ?

I wish I'd read this last night Stephen (apols if you're a 'Steven'), although it was Anna's choice and the whole terrorism thing scared her off. She also felt that resorts I'd picked were more a 'sunny holiday' than the real Egypt she's desperate to see. There was a 2 day trip to Cairo available from one resort, Taba, but it was still a 5 hr drive each way. Taba is right next to Israel too, so while it might be a way from Gaza, that stoked up the fear. Add to all this that September is election month (the 17th fact fans) leading to increased chance of protests and demonstrations.

So...in the end she chose week of lazing about in Ibiza with a promise between us that a properly planned trip to Egypt will occur in the next year or so.

Cheers for the input one and all. 8)

Yeah hopefully america will have invaded egypt by then and like Iraq, it will be better & safer for it

Yeah and they might set up a Green Zone like they have in Baghdad to make it nice and safe for Visitors!!
Not long before Thomson are promoting it as their new hot destination.

No you are correct. It is Stephen.
I was also going on the basis of what Bali was like after the Bali bombs. I was over there a couple of months afterwards and I had such an amazing time. I was overwhelmed by how grateful the Balinese were that we had made the effort to come to Bali after what had happened.

We thought about this too last night. But in the end the fact that there has been two (relatively) small explosions in the last fortnight was the final clincher.

Buckley,

I've been to Egypt twice and I would say that you really want to opt for the best hotel standard you can.
The first time (Hurghada)we went it was to a 4 star which had an amazing lobby but the rooms were very average and not overly clean.

Next time we went (Taba) we stayed at the Marriot 5 star all inclusive which was much more like it.

There are plenty of deals around for Egypt at the moment, I had a text yesterday from a mate who is in Sharm for a fortnight he said it was great.Plus if you're a diver (don't know if you are?) it is noticeably quieter rather than the normal which is get the the surface and pick a boat out of ten that could be yours :?:

Egypt's a great place for a week away, even if you don't dive the snorkeling is fantastic and the weather is always fantastic.

I shan't relay all this to Anna now Ibiza's booked but will take it on board for our eventual trip. The Marriot at Taba was the £400 one - did you visit Cairo from there Ed?

Haven't dived but may learn if I can get eyes corrected with laser surgery and throw way darn contacts!

We didn't go to Cairo from there but people did fly to Cairo for an overnight and then back.
First time we went we did all the Valley of Kings/Queens plus Carnak temple, etc which in my opinion had a lot more to offer than the Pyramids.

Taba is pretty locked in the middle of knowhere so unless you into diving (me) or lying in the sun reading a book (Cheryl) there isn't too much else to do.

The Marriot is very nice as are all the hotels in that vicinity, just don't expect to be able to go out at night to bars and resteraunts because there aren't any other than those in the hotel.

Unless your eye's are that bad you should be fine with the diving. My mate came out and joined us for the 2nd week we were there and did his Padi open water in 4 days then came diving with me and others on the 2nd last day.

It's a great place to learn.

We are prob going again in Nov...I love clubbing hols but it is nice to balence them with Diving and total relaxation to :D

Buckley, speak to me about the laser surgery if your interested in having it done. I researched it massively before I had mine done and am very happy indeed with the results.
