Any tips for holiday in Rio

I'm off to Rio on the 2nd of May for 2 weeks, was wondering if anyone had been, is there anywhere you would reckomend apart from the obvious Sugar Loaf, Jesus The Redeemer ect, any good clubs, bars ?

Yes Rio Brazil, ive read some horror stories on the net, and was a bit worried about booking, but ive always wanted to go, it looks so beautiful, ive also read very good reports, we will just have to be carefull, theres places you can go and places you cant, like every where in the world.
 
Jjinit i have a brazilian firend and even he is afraid of going back sometimes because there is so much crime, rape and attacks on tourists so I guess im not the only checken in the world

was actually reffering to opening scene to "City Of God" (set in Rio) where a chicken gets it!!! :lol:

i've been there in 2001. i loved it, and honestly said, i didn't find it's more dangerous than any other huuuge city. just don't go to the favelas, don't walk around alone late at night. and of course, don't wear any jewels and all that stuff. only take as much money in your pocket as you need for the day and nothing else.

apart of the sugar loaf and the jesus statue, there are those amazing beaches and many bars in the copacabana district. also go for some dancing-shows (often include dinner and dance). can't tell you anything 'bout clubs though...
if you have time, then take a plane to iguacu - the iguacu falls are amongst my most impressive places i've ever seen.
 
sounds nice! and you described it just like I imagined, would love to go there! just would still be a bit scared to go out in the middle of the night, clubbing.

was thinking about trying to get to those falls, will i be able to arrange a trip easily from my Hotel, i know you have to fly there and its best to stay overnight, i was also thinking of doing a tropical island trip to Angra dos Reis !?

Really enjoyed 'City of God ' not that i will be going any where near those places, very dodgy !!

angra dos reis and also buzios seem to be absolutely stunning places - not been though.

if you really want to go to the iguacu falls, then arrange it beforehand! and yes, with at least one night there. it takes some time to do the whole watching - because you can see the falls from the brazil side (one day) and from the argentina side (other day).

Hey linzi99, I'm from Rio and if you want some help you can PM me and I'll give you my phone number to show you around and take you to some good clubbing nights with all the fuel you'll need. Don't worry about the violence, you'll get used to it.

I live in Ipanema, one block away from the beach and the weather now is better than during the summer. Today it's 31 º C, no clouds in the sky. You'll love it. Although in May, as it is mid Fall it might be a little colder. Expect temperatures like 22 - 27 º C.
