...............being a social smoker???

don't know what it is but get me in a bar or a club with a drink and i always end up spending £5 on some fags that i dont really want. smoked for about 6 months when i was 11 but gave up and have never smoked regularly since only the odd one or two when out in a bar or club or afterparty.

i don't get any enjoyment out of smokin (other than i like to have somethin to do with hands to do whilst i'm havin a drink). think its more a habit/mental thing rather than anything else.

any advice on how to get over this??? :? :?

have you tried flipping beermats onto the top of your pint glass from the edge of the table?

played table football at space once when i was a little worse for wear

I used to be a social smoker too, about a year ago I lit up and had to run to the loo to throw up, this cured my social smoking!

Not that i'm advising you to throw up.

I used to be the same, I wouldnt smoke all week but if I went out at the weekend (especially clubbing) I could easily smoke 20-30 in those two days 8O
I used to wake up every Monday morning with a horrible phlegmy cough, where my poor lungs were so un-used to this amount of smoking 8O
I tried giving up loads of times, but each time I went out I'd have a sneaky puff on a cigarette, which led to me then buying a box of 20!

The only way I can suggest doing it is by not going out for a while. I've not been out for a month now due to having exams coming up, and Ive not smoked since 15th September!
I've been out drinking, and even though it's been hard, Ive managed to resist having a cigarette. When I am tempted I think of how rotten I'd feel on a Monday morning and how horrible smoking makes your teeth/hair/skin etc 8O

I've not been out clubbing yet, but hopefully when I next do it'll have been so long since I've smoked that I wont even want to!

Good luck anyway ;)

In these situations, I find it easier to convince yourself to pretend you don't need or want to quit.

so you mean like not making it an issue and then it'll naturally just deal with itself...........i like this attitude :D :D

Social smoking is the best argument for a smoking ban. So many people who wouldn't dream of smoking normally or who have given up fall off the wagon while on a night out. Tell your mates not to let you smoke and emphasise that you REALLY mean it.

I used to be the same. I'd not smoke all week and after 1 pint I'd be asking strangers to sell me a single, then smoking any offered all night. Fortunately for me all my mates decided to quit at once so there were no cigs being offered around. After a few months my tolerance disappeared and I've probably had about one in the last year - which tasted like sh1t.
