I'm sure there are still lots around (despite the supermarkets monopoly). Infact i went to a good organic one a few weeks ago, priced it all up and it was extortionate. OK, don't have to buy organic but surely that's the point of buying from a grocer?
Maybe i just have a very fast metabolism?

About £30-£60 depending on if Joeys going to be home for the week or not. We shop at Tesco which is right by where we live so its convenient although i absolutley loathe the layout and the clientelle

My first year at Uni my shop was exactly the same every week and it totalled, I can't remember the exact figure but something like £ 4.17 8) and used to top that up with Milk, Cheese and Bread midweek. That's not eating like a total scumbag either, just eating no breakfast, cheese toasties, pasta / rice & pea with turkey coz its cheaper. And my treat was tortilla chips and dip for the week. 
So you can live on any budget really, if money's tight food costs nothing, if your flush you live like kings. Now I'm loaded and cooking amazing dishes from around the world each night, it was only then when every last penny went on £ 6.17 bottles of cheap vodka.

I was lucky at uni - got fed a 3 course meal every night by waiters and all for just £1.50 8) in the same hall they shot the harry potter dinner scenes

)Yeah my friend had that, not for £1.50 mind, cost loads more but she always missed the meal times, due to them being at ' normal ' times and therefore had to buy food out all the time. Didn't know Oxford is a cheapie, Bournemouth is most expensive living costs relatively coz London and Brighton get extra and we don't !
) or Brooks ? Pints at a weekend here are £ 4 - £ 5 outside of Weatherspoons, Yates etc.Ooooo, impressed. Bournemouth at a weekend is party capital of England, gotta pay more and has arguably the best nightlife about. All the nice places are say, £ 4.10 for a rank beer, Carlsberg, £ 4.90 for like a Coors or something. Bottles are even more ! Silly money and that's the bars. Clubs are a no no all together. Only on the weekends though, £ 1 - £ 1.50 a pint in the week.

Some colleges charge loads, others nothing. It's an odd system.
I agree with you there Oxford is well expensive, You have all the expense of London but none of the fun!!!!
My wife works for M&S so I get 20% off all our shopping!!! wey hey the milky bars are on me!!!!
