Anjunadeep styled music

@cunninghamali check out anything on Sudbeat, Anjunadeep, and lost and found. That is what I'm referring to. Cox's Revolution nights in 2015 had Guy J I think on the terrace and I *think* nick Warren. Does anybody know how those nights went?

I think prog house has been replaced by the sorta deep techno style Solomun and the other guys on Diynamic play (Dixon, Mano Le Tough etc as well) and I like that sound too but just wish it was more like the prog stuff from the guys I mentioned in my first post. I know Soundgarden is holding monthly events in Ibiza but sucks it's not a weekly thing.

I can see you are struggling to describe the music you are trying to describe, without wishing to sound condescending because I often struggle here too. Things have got very sonically blurred

Ok here goes. 12-15 years ago a lot of those German guys were on small labels like Sonar Kollectiv, Innervisions, Sunday Music etc which were a niche interest for a few jazz/househeads around Europe. But then they gradually moved away from jazz/broken beat and more into house/techno, and a lot of the Detroit influences are obvious on the early innervisions records which is where carl craig and derrick carter started collaborating with them. Obv this sounded very different to a new generation that didn't remember original techno and had grown up with prog. Anyway, everything changed when Ame released REJ, which word of mouth 'crossed over' and then Radio 1, Sasha picked up on it and Defected licensed it - and then it went MASSIVE. And it all stems from that. (you also had other classics around that time like Sandcastles, Miura and Falling Up, which again crossed all sorts of boundaries)

I think you naturally struggle with what to call it because it isn't house OR techno OR prog, it's somewhere in between. it is proving successful because all sorts of DJs from different backgrounds can incorporate those tracks and I guess it dovetails with the more techy kind of music that people are producing nowadays. Personally I preferred Dixon and AME 10 years ago when the music they played was 'blacker' and more varied but who can deny them their success now?

now obviously it sounds very different to the swooshy northern exposure thing you are alluding to, which I'm not sure anyone really bothers with anymore?

personally I got really, really bored with progressive house in the late 90s - I can only dance for so long without wanting a change in pitch and some more raw kickdrums and 303 sleaze and occasional nods to the roots of house but it seems to me that 'tech' DJs have taken it to the other extreme and have forgotten what euphoria actually is, so I know where you're coming from!

Spoke to Hernan Cattaneo a few weeks ago. He absolutely avoided any kind of pigeonholing - prog house, tech - he didn't entertain any of that. To him, it is simply "melodic music"
