Amnesia in the old days

It was just an old farmhouse where hippies hung out and played music. Very informal and open air there was no main room to speak of.

It took off as a club in 1984 when Alfredo started his afterparty sets there. 5am-12. Ku (now Privilege) was the big club back then and people returning home from there went to Amnesia afterwards. Bit like DC10 and Space today.

With Alfredo's freestyle mixing, Amnesia went from strength to strength and it started to build and renovate from 86 onwards. It was 87 that the famous "First Contact" was made between Amnesia, the music and British pop culture.

Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling, Nick Holloway and Johnny Walker brought the vibe of Amnesia back to England and they helped to start the whole rave scene and dance music culture in England after their experience of Amnesia helped by the new drug E.

I cannot comment first hand on the original Amnesia experience when Alfredo played there but his sets were fresh with a freestyle mix. Some posters here were present back then (I didnt arrive until 96) (It was roofed in the early 90's due to noise pollution) so maybe they could help.
