Amnesia closing 2010 - Best Party of the Year??

Just back from a long weekend in Ibiza with my girlfriend after getting her flights for her birthday so we could go to Amnesia closing but the night was a bit of a disaster! It was our third visit to the island. We got to Amnesia at half 3 and i have literally never been to a club (or anywhere else) that was so clearly over crowded and capacity. We went way to the back hoping there woul be more space there, stood for about an hour hoping it would quieten down, then tried to move to the main room and getting there was actually a bit scary... it was so so busy and people were pushing and i genuinely was worried about what would happen if someone fell over. we waited another hour at the edge of the main room and at about half 5, finally decided to give up and head home.

Best decision to leave at 5 as it was not getting better.
We arrived at Amnesia at 5 in the morning and stayed all day until around 4-5 pm.
Still then the club was full and no chance for real dancing.
We did spent most of the time in the main area as there where more space available. After they closed the main area at around 2 pm it got even worse at the terrace.

I was on the loveparade this year just minutes before the disaster and I can tell you Amnesia terrace was not far away from that. One simple think like a falling bottle from VIP in the crowd and this could have ended in an disaster as well.

I also can not understand why they did not use the ice-canon which would have been very appricated from the crowd. Some of the people looked as they where near collapse.

Other then that the music was quit good and the crowed was rocking.
It was quite a nice party but I would not spend money for it again. Richiew Hawtin with a 6 hour set on events like the time warp is the better alternativ for me.

Ushuaia closing did save the day. Not to full and also a nice rocking crowd.

I think we will try space closing next year as I hope the crowed is splitted into the different areas there.

Interesting read AB and glad it wasn't just me being lame. I agree on the safety...i accept when i go to Ibiza that i'll pay over the ods for clubs and drinks but its worth it because it's so so good and so fun but that just didnt happen in amnesia when i was there. Its odd the police seem so lax on the over crowding when they are so over the top on other things (opening hours etc) but like you, i have been in some very crowded places (football games, carnival 10 years ago when they had serious over crowding issues) and this was one of the worst espcially for such an enclosed place.

Space closing last year was a lot better (in terms of overcrowding) in the day when the outside was open and the fresh air really helped. We still waited 40 mins for the toilets a lot and we left at 2am but a lot of people said that was really over crowded later on. i know loads of people said the opening party last year at space was horribly crowded.

I am a bit guuted BUT i still had an amazing time in Ibiza and for my 4th trip, i'll just be a bit more selective on what nights i go to (or when i go!)

I did the Space closing and in terms of the Crowd it was absolutely no problem. I arrived early to catch all the daytime party feeling that Space is all about.

It was a fantastic party on the Sunset Terrace. The people were in full swing. Happy music, a smile on everyones face. But at 6pm some kind of a babyface Dj (never seen him before and still don't know his name) took the terrace. He played the biggest, most uninspired bull$hit I've heard EVER on the Space terrace. In this way he managed it to make nearly half of the sunset terrace leaving and nearly 75% stop dancing in one hour. :spank: (remember: Space Closing Party 8O).
I hope I will never ever see again this so-called DJ again on the Space terrace. Does anybody know who he was?

Regards

I went to this last year and it was no way as busy as this year. Though Ibiza and PdB in general was way busier than last year to be fair and from going for a quick weekend in July I think that gooes for the whole season.

But I thought Amnesia was amazing. Went with 20 people and by midday there were only 2 of us left. we pushed through till about 3.30 and then left for Ushuaia. In fact that video link someone has put up is pretty much where I was standing the whole time. Next to the DJ booth on the steps as it was the only place with any room to dance I could find.

Got there at 5.30am and caught some of Matinee....which was well Matinee (and somehow lost its cheesy charm since its daytime space days) ...thought Loco Dice's first half was ok but second half of set was really good and thought Ritchie Hawtin and Marco Carola smashed it.

I know R. Hawtin gets stick from the cool cats these days but for me he still knows how to destroy a dancefloor and is perfectly complemented by Carola

I think because last year was my first time it was the best as it had the wow factor but this was equally as good!

Having said that DC-10 was my fav closing party of the weekend. Best crowd, amazing music in every room and just good vibes. Thought Jamie Jones was superb in the outside area

The Vagabundos after party for the first few hours was also great fun. I didnt make Space as went to Ushuaia which from the beach was unfortunately a bit quiet and not as good as last year but still was great fun.

just quickly, cos i won't talk about how busy it was in my review.

got there at 8, was very very busy, too busy of course, but escaped upstairs for a bit.

it was pretty much chocca until midday i think.

after that, in the back half of the terrace, main dancefloor it was fine. i found this at carl cox closing too, the dancefloor itself was less packed than the surrounds.

it was a lot busier than last year, which is unsurprising given the hype its got especially here.....i don't know any other party anywhere in the world that has had as many positive comments as this has on spotlight.

i hate the packed, pushing, aggro club situations as much as the next person, but if you get there at 8/9, the best time IMO, then you only have to suffer it a couple of hours before it's fine again.

full review coming soon!

left around 3, couldn´t stand anymore ...
what was the very last track of the amnesia-closingparty ?

we arrived at 6am and left at 4pm... first time at the closing party and it was incredible!!! very, very squashed though and loads of people just shoving past you in the terrace although i guess there is no choice in a crowd that size... will definitely be back next year!!!

Not at all how i felt about the night (as i was there a lot earlier) but still a good review Grego :)

What i would say is that i think there is a big difference in opinion between the people who could go on to the balcony and those that couldn't. When you have a decent area to chill out on and look down at a massive crowd, it is much easier to relax. We werre trying to stand at the side of the dance floor waiting for the crushing to ease off and it was horrible (and boring)...had a been on the balcony, i would have been much more relaxed and happier to just have a drink and watch the party...before joining in later.

i would have stayed to the end if if i was able to go into the main room to chill out... tried going in at around 2pm and found the doors to be closed!! sweat was dripping of me and even going upstairs to relax wouldn't get you out of the intense heat... 30 euro for 2 bottles of water doesn't help the situation either!! but, i will be back next year though... one idea for the owners to take note of if they read this would be to just leave the main room open ( even if there's no dj's playing ) as it would be a great area to get out of the dangerously high temperatures in the terrace if they insist in having the place overcrowded.... just a thought.. :)

Superb ,got in at 8.30 and left at 3pm ,music was class . Moved on to Ushia beach party at night which was also good . Best clubbing day in the 8 years ive been going
