I have always wanted to visit Ibiza since I heard about it in a college report (THANK GOD FOR SCHOOL!) anyways, having hit most of the scene in Florida and done Mardi Gras in New Orleans 5 yrs straight, Im very anxious to do Ibiza for the first time. For anyone who doesnt know, Marid Gras is like the American version of Ibiza but only for a couple weeks and from what I read here, not nearly as intense.

My questions are are there alot of Americans here that have gone to Ibiza and can any of you veterans, whether American or European :) help a new guy out on when is the best time for my firends and I to visit? Would aprpeicate any Info.

Mardi Gras is nothing like Ibiza.

i thought mardi gras was about loads of sexual frustrated "jocks" getting to see a pair of tits for the first time and acting like drunken dicks. if this is correct head to the west end of ibiza to meet your english counterparts.

obviously i did not elaorate as much as I should and i apologize. What i mostly meant is just a giant party basically. EVERYONE goes to Mardi Gras throughout the U.S. which is why i enjoy it cause I like to party with all kinds of diff people. Yes alot of it is the whole flashing your chest for beads etc etc. Im not into that and I never have. Ive seen enough tits as you would say, I just like to party and have a good time which is the only refernce I was making.

Im not looking for the nudity, simply trying to get info to the best places, times and meet alot of people that our just out to have a great time. Sorry if people took the post the wrong way. Im not saying Ibiza is Mardi Gras, its just one of the BIGGEST known parties in the states where everyone goes. Still would appreciate any info that i said in my previous post.

i think ibiza is best compared to the wmc in miami, except its 5 months long not a week. i like going in august simply for the hottest weather, but its more expensive and a lot busier.

anytime from the last week in june until the first week in october will see 3 or 4 huge clubs in action every night. every club will have something on but i am talking about really huge line ups with world class djs.

a lot of people head out in september for the closing parties, which are meant to be good, not as hot or packed or as expensive as peak season.

accomodation wise you will probably want to stay in san antonio, san antonio bay or playa d'en bossa. the island can be much more than 20 miles across so getting about isnt difficult.

and again still nothing compares to Ibiza...

I know nothing compares...if it did compare, I wouldnt be syked about going. I was just trying to make a comparison, however ridiculous it may seem. New Orleans at Mardi Gras is hundreds of thousands of people, one party itself attracts 30,000 at once. Thats all i was meaning. I was looking online at flights and stuff and I typed in Ibiza and it brings up Ibiza, Spain. This is what im looking for right? Ive also lookin at hotels and stuff but I dont know exactly what im lookin at so thx for some actual hotal names, I can type those in and give me more of an idea. Flight says Id land in Madrid and then to Ibiza. From your experience, is the closing parties the best times to go? if I go I wanna go for like 2 wks and just really try to aim for the best time possible.

Hi Rico,
I'm from the states and have been to Mardi Gras a few times. Definitely a good time!

My wife and I are going to Ibiza for the first time this summer. We are booked for the the end of September to catch the closing parties. The lineups will be superb and the prices around that time aren't bad. Coming from the states airfare is quite pricey during the peak seasons of Ibiza but they definitely go down near the middle-end of September.

I would check out the main Ibiza Spotlight site for lodging. They have tons of information and reviews on the site..you can also book directly from the site. We got a great deal, around $40 a night in San Antonio.

Check out http://www.orbitz.com, http://www.travelocity.com, and http://www.expedia.com for flights. Orbitz had the best deal for us.

Good luck! Let me know if you'll be in Ibiza in late September...we'll have to have a board meetup.

i lived in New Orleans for over than 5 years.. and by faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar a regular night in ibiza is way better than FAT Tuesday it self ;)

Mardi Gras ==> one time experiance is more than enough..

ibiza ==> once u go there.. ur HOOKED FOR LIFE 8O u will come back ;) ask anyone here :D

I'd like to break up the closing party chorus by saying I enjoy the opening party season a little more. The 2nd half of June is a great time... also cheaper than high season (July/August) but some very good parties.

If you go to closing party season, make sure your flight out is no later than the day after the Space/DC10 closings or else it's far too depressing (everyone clears out, seasonal shops close down, etc.)

Also, don't assume that Ibiza is one big party. The island has more to offer than that... beaches, bars, restaurants, countryside, etc. People aren't partying in the streets or anything like you see at Mardi Gras. That said, the clubs host some great parties with top DJs. If you're DJ literate, check out the Ibiza-Spotlight clubbing calendar to see who's playing when and at which clubs/parties.

Oh I know there is more to Ibiza then the parties...I use to live in England as a kid and regret being an angry american brat not enjoying what was around me. I want to sample everything of Ibiza, and also the nightlife. I appreciate everyones help thus far. I know this site prolly offers alot but I just havent found my way around just yet.

Jason, thus far I dont know if we are aiming for this year or next. There r some key people that I want to go with me to Ibiza and dont know if they r as ready as I am. It may be next summer im not sure but trying to find all the info i can so im prepared. Im looking at the opening and closing parties to see what i feel may be best. Weather may be nicer in Sept as well.

Once again thx for the info and ill chk out the links you provided

No problem. From what I've heard, nothing can prepare you for Ibiza  but I hear what you are saying. It's a great idea to research and find out as much information as you possibly can before making the final decision. Another reason I chose closing parties is because the opening parties were far too spread out while the closing parties were mostly confined to September. In other words, I could catch more closing parties than I could opening parties. Let me know if you need any more info...I spent quite a bit of time researching before booking.

DJR69,

I went to Ibiza last year for the first time w/ 4 friends. One of our friends went the year previous and it was a tremendous help having someone around that knew where everything was at. We stayed at the Jet Apartments in Playa Den Bossa, which is probably one of the better places to stay if you want to be close to the party scene. Be weary of the planes flying overhead all day and night (We actually thought it was really cool). Bora Bora is a stones throw away, as is Space (which is probably the best club I have ever been to IMO). No matter where you go, you will have an awesome time, but be sure to spend time away from the clubs and go see the island. It is extremely beautiful out there, and its a shame if you do not explore the island. Rent a car, they are surprisingly inexpensive. Well, my rant is over, hope you have an amazing time. :D

Ya i know what u mean bout the planes. Use to have a girl friend of mine that lived at the end of an airport, the planes would be coming right at you...seemed very cool when drunk :) Ya im finding out as much as I can and it also helps to give my friends time to get things together. Some have kids and need alot of time for work to change there schedule....mine is alot more flexible and I have no kids as of this moment :)

I trying to decide between the opening and closing parties. You said the opening ones were spaced out, so if there is no opening parties were the clubs still real cool to goto? how was the crowd and all? Are the parties that much more worth to goto that i should holdout for the closing parties to hit more of them?

I've gone each summer since '01 and I always go in July, either the first two weeks or the second two weeks and I've always loved it.
I don't think it matters too much when you go, so long as you go!

sweet, always glad to hear that it still cool even w/o the big parties. The Island itself sounds amazing so i cant wait to check it out. How is the food there and stuff? always up to trying new food :) Tell ya what, just chking plane tickets its pricey coming from the States, though money is no option...I cant wait for the memories!

RICO ure definitely in for a treat...there is nothing quite like it...i've been to mardi gras and cancun-it was fun but it was more about getting laid and getting girls to get naked (as you probably agree with me)....Ibiza's different, man...

First of all...the WOMEN are phenomenally banging, man. They got that supermodel Euro-look to them. Especially, the Spanish women... Yo, you will be drooling when u catch a glimpse.....the clubs, beaches, bars are hot..I recommend staying in the Playa Den Bossa area cause its the place to be...No offense to the Westenders but peeps in Playa Den Bossa are chiller...Plus, In the daytime you can party at Bora Bora and lay out on the beach and at night u roll to Space or wherever...Yo it really don't matter man. u'll have a great time either way...
