from the ibiza sun:
Pharmacies on the island have warned about the growing problem of "fake" drugs being sold on the streets. During the months of July and August the sale of pharmaceutical drugs including Lofton, Emconcor and Ciclofalina increase one hundred fold. At first the pharmacists could not understand the drastic increase, but soon the first cases of arrests started involving dealers trying to sell the drug as ecstasy. The tablets are white, very similar in size and have a logo, common to many ecstasy pills. The cost of every pill is 10 cents. They are then sold on for 10 euros.
The advantage with this drug for the dealer, as well as economical, explained a lawyer, is the fact that when they are caught selling it, it is very difficult to convict them for drug offences, as they are merely imitation drugs. Until the law changes, this situation will continue.
The problem is that if these drugs are abused, they could have grave consequences for the health of the person taking them. Lofton for example is a drug to improve the blood circulation and flow to the heart. Emconcor is a drug for hypertension and its consumption should be carefully monitored. It will, incidentally, have the exact opposite effect that the drug user is looking for, slowing down his heart rate and tension.
Activists pleaded for tighter controls, and for the companies producing these medicines to take the appropriate action.
