Air Europa is the WORST AIRLINE EVER

I advise anyone who has yet to book their trip or who plans on flying in the near future to avoid using Air Europa. They have the most unprofessional, rude staff imaginable. They also have easily the worst service any airline could possible offer.

The employees at the Ibiza Airport refused to check our baggage through to New York. Because of this we had to pick our baggage up in Barcelona and as a result missed our connection to London. The Air Europa employees in Barcelona could give no explanation for why this happened. They did however spend over 3 hours to find a flight THE NEXT DAY. When we asked if as a courtesy we could be upgraded to first class, they said there were no seats available. This of course proved to be a lie, as there were many empty seats in first class on our flight the next day.

So, we were told we were to be put up in a "four star hotel" and were encouraged to spend the extra day to see Barcelona. The problem was this run-down hotel was in the middle of an industrial park with nothing around. While we were told by Air Europa we get "a very nice" dinner for free, we were actually offered a "limited airline menu" at the hotel's restaurant. Finally, we found out that morning that the airline wouldn't even pay our phone bill and we weren't permitted by the hotel staff to board the shuttle bus back to the airport until we coughed up the money.

To sum up, I would warn anyone who has booked a flight with this miserable company to expect the worst and ask that people not ever fly with these horrible people ever again. I know I won't be.

damn that sux dude.. not the best mood to be in after having such a great time on the island!!

Barcelona it's not London or NY and unfortunatly there's only 1 direct flight a week to NY, that may explain those three hours

I had a similar experience years ago in Paris. They offered us an hotel in the middle of nowhere and instead of staying in the hotel we pick up a taxi and visit the city. Easy.

Sorry to hear that, anyway

I flew on Air Europa once on the Madrid-Ibiza route and it was quite decent.

I didn't check my bags through on my connecting flight to Moscow, though, because it was a different airline. You've always got to leave time between flights.

I think he might be talking about finding a flight from Barca back to London, not direct to NYC.

Sorry to hear that man... I went Iberia the first time and it was better but not much better. The direct airlines from UK are best so far for me.

Airlines make mistakes and flights get missed. I'm used to that.

What I wasn't prepared for was the way we were treated during the whole time. Every single person working for Air Europa was rude and lied straight to me face.

It is a pretty common airline practice to upgrade a passanger to first class when you cause their travel plans to be delayed an entire day. If the airline doesn't want to, well, that's still pretty lame, but Air Europa told me it was because there were none available, which clearly was not the case.

Furthermore, if you are putting me up in a dumpy hotel with nothing around it, then just tell me so I know. Don't tell me you are putting me in a four-star hotel in the city with a great meal included.

Mikey, spanish idea of being polite is not the same as in other countries. Lots of british or american tourists are shock with our that and think we are rude but it's just different ways to express.

Anyway, as I said before, a shame you ended your holidays that way

Flat out lying to a person is rude no matter what country or culture you are in.

Most hotels around the airport are 4 stars, and if you expected a hotel in the middle of las ramblas those are fully booked all year long.
Air Europa customer service and complain there: clientes@air-europa.com

I have to agree and disagree with Mikey.
Yes, Air Europa is the worst airline. I have flown them a number of times to Ibiza and they never fail to lose my luggage. Last summer they made me pay a €100 supplement for excess baggage on my flight back to Paris via Barcelona only to have them lose my two pieces. I asked for a refund as compensation but was refused. Air France didn't make me pay a supplement on the way down and it was more or less the same weight and two pieces.
But where I disagree is why Air Europa should automatically upgrade. That is not common airline policy - which is to simply book you on the next available flight and cover your hotel/meals (which apparently was done).
I don't understand actually the routing. To my knowledge, Air Europa doesn't fly to London from Barcelona or from London to New York. They do fly Madrid to NYC but on a code share with Continental operated by Continental. If you were on an Air Europa code share, Air Europa may have sold out their seats in First Class whereas the operating airline may not have (hence empty seats). If the continuing flights were not operated by Air Europa, Air Europa has no control over upgrading decisions.
Finally, the key question is: was your flight from Ibiza back to New York all on the same ticket? If yes, there is no reason why Air Europa couldn't check in your luggage all the way through. If they said they couldn't, then it is the worst airline in the world.
Air Europa personnel are generally rude (ditto for Iberia), but Spanish people are on the whole great, polite and a whole lot of fun!

ick. Thats well harsh mate. :(

Its all about flying BA to be honest. I've been with other airlines & ain't goin with anyone else now. And if you book early enough & are flexible in times, you can still get *VERY* good deals. :D
