air conditioning?

Have checked out a few hotels/apartments online and noticed lots of the rooms don't have air conditioning. Am looking to go in September and thought I read someone say that they wished they had air conditioning in their room during their stay in September (however that might have been during the unusually hot Euro-hot spell this past year). What's the deal with the no air-con option? Does the establishment usually at least supply a fan or something for these rooms regardless?

A lot of the cheaper places don't have air conditioning. Personally, I wouldnt even consider staying somewhere that doesn't have it. Its far too hot. 2 years ago I stayed in a villa in September with no air con and it was unbearable.

Some hotels might have fans you can hire. It might be worth contacting them and asking before you book.

Hi there fiz.

It might've been my posting you were commenting on. Last year, I stayed 26 August-7 September at the Jet, Playa D'en Bossa with Air Conditioning and it was a bit of a nightmare. It was an unusally hot summer, but August in Ibiza is still pretty hot (as is September although it does cool off a lot) and on the Jet, there is little ventilation anyway but we were tossing and turning in our sleep.

Most places will at least provide a fan but will charge you quite a lot for it (about 15 euros for 2 weeks at least) and I found having taken my own fan in my luggage last year that I was still boiling at night. Hence why my #1 priority this year was AC.

The cheaper places tend not to have AC, but will offer a fan. I believe the Jet has installed AC in all their rooms as well for 2004.

we stayed at encanto apts last year , was awful having no air con.you`d come out of the shower , dry your hair and be wet again yak!!
we couldnt hire a fan till half way through our second week, even that didnt help!! we are definatly staying somewhere with air con this year! :D

we had a nitemare too last year in the grand sol, fans were for hire but there were none available when we went :?

my fiance ended up sleeping on the floor most nites cos it was cooler (fcuked his back in the meantime :? )

I came back last year with a really bad virus and i'm certain it came from the air con :?

Probably just use a fan this year even though we have AC.

the good old ibiza flu , everyone had that !! i was ill during our second week , couldnt stop having coughing fits , wasnt very nice

Air con is a bonus, but I don't feel it is essential. I have been going to Spain in high season since I was knee high and have coped with a fan. It's all part of the fun whilst on holiday IMO.

The heat doesn't really bother me during the day, it is just at night when it's horrible and sticky. I definately agree with Drew though, I reckon air con is responsible for 75% of virus's that people catch on hols, can't be good for you going from a lowish temperature straight into a fairly high one.

It was too hot for me in the day, but fine at night, I went in September, it was about 25-35'C, and I had no air conditioning, but it didn't bother me, and I hate the heat

I was there in late-Jun/early-Jul '03 and I thought that it was quite hot. I did not find out about the fan rentals till it was a bit too late. 15 Euros for two weeks does not seem bad at all. I have decided that the next time I am in a hotel with no fan, either I will rent one, or just go to a local hardware store and get a small desktop fan that you can discard at the end of the trip.

Cheers,

We paid about 3 euro per day for a fan (2 years ago at Sal Rossa PDB)

- A lot safer than AC IMO ;)

I think the Ibiza flu will just get you anyway, regardless of AC and having had a fan on us in the bedroom last year and no AC we thought that was just as bad in spreading germs.

You can have AC in your hotel room/rented apartment, however that'll increase the cost alot.

You mentioned u plan to go in September, so IMO u don't even need an airconditioned room during September (talking from experience), since the weather is just fine and even a bit cold in that time of the year.

Yeah, but apparently most AC systems harbour hundreds of germs which just sit there until it is switched on - even the doctor advised me to avoid AC whenever possible.

Air Con is a must have in the summer. Unless your room has a through draft, which it probably won't unless you keep the door open and then people will nick your stuff.

If you've been looking forward to the hoilday all year don't ruin it by being cheap. It might cost more but remember you're worth it!

Hear, hear!

Bollocks.....anyone who requires air conditioning in September needs to toughen up a bit.

It rarely gets above 30 degrees during the day, and you are rarely in your hotel room during the day anyway. I had a ceiling fan which was more than adequate.

Unless you live in Antarctica for 10 months of the year, the heat is not a problem in September.

You're from Sydney mate! It's well hot compared to our awful summers here.

If you don't get a through-draft it gets really stuffy which is never nice at night.
