I went to a physio today for an assessment and she has booked me in for an acupuncture treatment (to help with the symptoms of fibromyalgia). Has anyone here had this before? Im shocked that its available on the NHS but obviously glad thay are considering non conventional treatment and that i dont have to pay for it!

I had knee surgery in Feb was in a lot of pain, took acupunture and it helped loads. I thought it was hogwash at first but it helped me.

My dad had it for a few months as he has always had non stop trouble with his back, but I dont think it helped him that much. But never say never!

What was your knee surgery for? Why were you in so much pain afterwards?
(I ask because I smashed one of my knees in Feb. and fear surgery is required)

Thanks for the link Barbie, hope its going to be effective for me and maybe ill have some chance of enjoying my hols and if im really lucky getting back to work soon. Hope none of you ever get this horrible condition.

i had lower back pain recently.............just from overdoing it/muscular.

i had one session and the truth is i don't honestly know whether it helped or not. after the session i felt invigorated and the next few days the pain felt different, like it had been numbed slightly (or may have gone but in my mind i felt it was still there). i think it defo helped me on my way, but scientifically i'm not sure what other factors contributed to my recovery and to what extent.

read the theories on wikipedia but the worst that can happen is that you cross it off the list of potential cures/treatments. i personally think it is not a miracle cure but can play a major part in treatments, particularly chronic or long term stuff.

it is spooky when you feel the ch'i inside you.

I had a torn ACL/ MCL from football. I was recovering nicely until I got hit by a wacko while snowboarding. My minicus was torn to shreds so I had what is called microfracture surgery. They drill holes in the bones surrounding the knee to regenerate cartliage. I am almost ready for full tilt dancing.

The doc thinks it's the miniscus I've damaged as well (during an unfortunate early morning nightclub cloakroom incident ).

Did you have it done in Spain or back in the States? Expensive?

I have free medical but I would say the most expensive part was being laid up for 6 weeks. I could not walk or put pressure on my leg for a month that would be more costly then the procedure. I could take the time off work without problem. I had the surgery in Spain not to put myself in the catagory as elite atheles but they have the same operation and make full recoveries.
