A tale of two halves

Thanks for the nice replies! Yeah I'd recommend hiring something on Formentera. We would've got scooters but Martyn forgot to bring his driving license, so we just went for push bikes. I'd like to explore more, but the beaches to the north were easy to get to on the bikes. People do walk up there, but that could take a while.

Love the pics and thanks for writing the review ... sounds like you got a great trip in despite the odd 'miss' - bound to happen now and again.

making me think about breaking my resolve to resist a trip and heading to Formentera for a few days ! Really love that place. It's so flat that it's great for bikes but scooters are definitely an easier call and you can see more in a day. Need some shades on that road to Ses Illetes though - you get an eye full of dust every time a car drives past otherwise !

Eating out by yourself on solo trips isn't especially inviting - have to admit I don't bother with restaurants much these days unless meeting up with people. Only when I'm starving and usually for lunch - preferably at a relaxed beach restaurant.

Definitely think it's worthwhile renting a car if you do a solo trip...

Very nice review! Should make one of mine also, but not as good in story telling as you I'm afraid.

Formentera really is a must! Regret for not doing it the first 2 trips. Looks like u've also made the perfect balance between partying & enjoying the vibe of the island! Will try to check Casa Manolo next time. The pictures of your food makes me hungry, i've eaten the tagliatelli with smoked salmon @ Walkers (the same as your mate i think).

Normally no return for me this year in september, but I said the same after the openings.. :D

Glad you mentioned the Formentera trip. Something I've never got around to doing in the past either, and definitely on the agenda this time! Still cant decide between pushbikes or mopeds, plus the missus wouldnt be able to have her own moped as no licence! What extra is there to see that you can do on a moped instead of a bike? Is it worth it?

Thanks again for taking the time to post your review. Impressive balance of partying and chilling in such a short space of time!

See ya in Sept!

I just would've liked to see the whole island. You see the beaches we went to from the boat on the way down, it looks amazing from there and even better when you get there, but that's pretty much where everyone seems to head when they get there. Next time I'll get a scooter and check out Playa de Migjorn, Sant Francesc (the capital, sort of), and es calo. Just to see what's there really. Don't get me wrong, just a trip over on the boat and a cycle up to Ses Illetes is still an amazing day, but I'd like to see what else is there.

if you're just planning on doing those beaches in the north then I don't think it's worth getting a scooter at all, bikes would do fine. You can take a shortcut that the mopeds can't, and you don't have to pay €3 each to go up the island and piss around with finding somewhere to park. When you rent a bike they'll include a lock, just find a fence somewhere.

If you want to move around the island more, there's no reason you couldn't get both of you on a moped. If you do, go for 1 with one of those storage boxes on the back. You can fit plenty of stuff on one of those, and there's less chance of your mrs ending up in the road when you get a bit throttle happy.

Cracking review Jack.

Will need to try casa manola this year as im taking my mum and dad (built in babysitters) and they love their seafood.

Formentera is beautiful. Im sure one of the ferrys used to drop you at the beach you cycled to. Used to stop over at the rocks but prob got made to stop for h&s reasons. Was adodgy bboarding experience haha

Were there in sept so hopefully get the weather for a wee trip over.
