A night with Tiësto in aid of Dance4Life Spain
Tiesto to headline the event on Tues, July 7th at Privilege Ibiza alongside DJs Robbie Rivera, Richard Grey, Marcello Marchitto and Ricky Rivaro
Entrance by minimum donation of 10€, with all proceeds destined for Dance4Life
The world’s number 1 DJ Tiësto is back on his mission to Dance4Life with an event to take place on Tues 7th July. Ambassador for Dance4Life since 2006, Tiësto is set to demonstrate once again his unlimited support for the organisations global initiative to combat AIDS with this one-off event in the world’s biggest club, Privilege Ibiza.
The idea for the Dance4Life Ibiza event was suggested by Tiësto and his management in a bid to raise both awareness and funds for the Non Govermental Organisation to help develop their programme in Ibiza, Mallorca, Barcelona and Cantabria. Monies raised on the night of the event will go towards educating some 10,000 Spanish teenagers in the prevention of HIV & AIDS, through a series of programmes organized hand in hand with Balearic NGO~ ALAS, owners of the license for Dance4Life Spain.
Tiësto will be joined in the DJ booth by a number of other internationally known names including Robbie Rivera, Richard Grey, Marcello Marchitto and Ricky Rivaro, the party starts at 11.59 and ends at 06.00.
Since first pledging his commitment to Dance 4 Life in The Hague in 2006, Tiësto has led and participated in a number of AIDS combating initiatives, from heading up the Dance4Life truck at the Berlin Love Parade to participating in the Inauguration Ceremony of the International AIDS Conference in Toronto. He also produced the ‘Dance4Life’ anthem alongside Maxi Jazz (Faithless); the track went on to become a hit in a number of countries worldwide, as well as DJing at numerous Dance4Life events. In 2007, Tiësto journeyed to South Arica to take a first hand look at some of the projects benefitting from Dance4Life. According to him, "Dance4Life appeals to me as both an artist and a human being. Their work with the world’s young people is very ambitious; Dance4Life offers the kids a wide variety of ways to get involved, always with an end goal of huge music event where dance is the protagonist. It is this fusion of dance and entertainment that motivates so many young people worldwide to unite for a common challenge: combating HIV&AIDS."
WHAT IS DANCE4LIFE?
Dance4Life was founded in 2003 by Dennis Karpes and Ilco van der Linde; two experienced social marketeers who both felt that the media and event industry was not being used properly to engage young people in social issues. The initial concept of dance4life was based on the experience both men had in marketing and communication and a truly unique in-schools programme that would appeal to young people as well.
The first full Dance4Life program was implemented in 2004 in South Africa, Indonesia, and the Netherlands, reaching 50,000 young people in schools4life, with 20,000 young people attending the dance4life event. In 2006, Dance4Life expanded to incorporate 11 countries: Egypt, Germany, Ireland, Kenya, Netherlands, Nigeria, Russia, South Africa, Tanzania, United Kingdom and Vietnam. Over 100,000 young people were reached in schools projects, of which 30,000 attended at the international dance4life event. In 2008, dance4life all but doubled the number of participating countries to a total of 20. By 2014 the aim is to implement dance4life in at least 35 countries.
What is ALAS?
ALAS is the Against-AIDS Fight Association in the Balearic Islands who are the NCO and responsible for Dance4Life in Ibiza. ALAS was created in 1987 in order to give an answer to the needs of people infected and affected by HIV and AIDS, as well as to encourage education, awareness and sensitizing the general population about HIV prevention and the social stigma that surrounds it.
