what I strongly disagree with is the statement about cox being 'the last superstar dj'.
yes, he is immensely popular among very different audiences but lots of his success this year was due to the scarcity. old marketing trick really. imagine carola or solomun playing only two nights. or even guetta for that matter. it would have been exactly the same! so cox IS a superstar dj but far from the last or only one.

I enjoy trance nights, Carl Cox and my first ever visit to elrow last summer was great.
In 5 years time if I can't move without posing selfie artists by pool by day and grime artists in the clubs by night, I think I'll just rent an apartment in the countryside in the North and segregate myself with drink, drugs and chicken rustler burgers (other microwave branded burgers are available) for the week

Mostly agree actually...but mostly.
Love Carl Cox... he definitely is one of the most skilled in his art craft but the island has several international superstars ..love them or hate them or their music or their skills but Guetta, Garrix, Carola, Sven are all up their with total numbers.. with DG probably no 1 with sheer numbers alone..filling up Ushuaia AND Pacha, week after week.
IMO Amnesia will shoot itself in the foot with too many techno centered nights this year...the lesser nights being assured casualty status by the end of the season. Pacha's total overhaul and Coccon capture will generate a lot of excitement and a renaissance. Privilege may have a mixed bag...specially if Afterlife leave.... Ushuaia will continue to do very well. It will be interesting to see how Hi does. I suspect better than one would anticipate.

David Guetta and Garrix are pop stars not djs. No way should they be compared to cox, Solomun etc. It’s insulting

as much as I dislike what guetta does nowadays, at least he‘s one of the guys who actually did properly dj in the past - with vinyl and everything (his sets at space were actually enjoyable). for that and the fact he‘s still up there with the most popular acts after so many years I have a tiny little respect left for him

I know David Guetta can mix if he had to but my point is, for years now he is more of a pop star than a dj. Same for Calvin Harris. These guys aren’t djs.
They more widely know for their songs in the charts than anything else.

I agree with what you are trying to say.. and that’s why I said “superstar” and not DJ on the island. I even prefaced my comment with careful verbage . As it stands these other performers/producers /stars/entities are on the island, hold residencies and perform to audiences in large numbers. You and I may dislike one or all aspects of it but that is a fact.
