Right, i've done loads of research on 5 HTP after finding it didnt aggree with me and caused me a lot of messed up dreams and sleep paralysis much worse than normal. Cant be bothered to go over everything about it but here are the basics
It increases your seratonin levels. This is good before you take ecstasy as it makes it work better. So preloading with HTP is good. Do this the day or two before you go out. This is fine for going out on fri/sat like at home.
If you dont take E that often, and dont go out all the time then HTP is also good to take after clubbing as it restores depleted seratonin levels that your body isnt used to being without. This stops comedowns to some extent, esp whtn combined with other vitamins.
However - if you take a lot of pills week in week out, and go out a lot then it can be dangerous. Your body IS used to having to produce extra seratonin to combat the effects of E depleting it. Taking the HTP can then lead to the over production of seratonin which can cause nasty side effects. This is basically when you have 'weird' kind of dreams, its cause the high seratonin levels are causing this. This can also cause much worse sleep paralysis as your brain finds it hard to wake out of the hightened dreaming state caused by the over production of seratonin.
Another danger or HTP, and no one has been able to say why this happens in only some people is that their bodies become reliant on it to some extent to produce seratonin. When they stop taking it they may suffer depression, and excessive comedown. So then they may take more to combat this, leading to a viscious circle of addiction much like other illegal drugs!!!
If you're of the sort that doesnt go out
that often or take E
that often then suddenly taking loads and then loads of HTP like when on holiday can lead to the side effects i've mentioned above.
I wouldnt reccomend taking it that much on holiday. Perhaps one tablet a day in the evenings before you go out to try to keep seratonin levels at stable levels throughout your holiday.
